Fresh English translation
Mūlatāla: ‘The beloved sets out to coax her; walk slowly, slowly. Amid the women she will not look at her lord; ever-new love flashes only for a moment in the beloved's eyes. (1) Filled with feeling, she considers the pressure within her heart; pleasure approaches, then turns back, practicing its feint. Kṛpānivāsa says: for the sake of the rasa-play, Rāma coaxes her māna, though proud resolve remains strong.’ (2) Four tālas: ‘Beloved Sīyā sits holding fast to māna. The beloved who is her very life beholds her fresh beauty and the rasa of bliss. Resting her face upon her hand, she gazes—as though the moon had left its veil and come to dwell in a lotus. (1) [A densely printed line describes her writing and swanlike beauty.] Kṛpānivāsa says: Rāma meets her and entreats her; at once her form grows saturated with the rasa of anger.’ (2) Rāga Chāyā Naṭa, mūla tāla: ‘I offer myself to the entreaty made with those eyes; Rāma the rasika, gently, gently—’ [the song continues on the next page].
