[The Nāyakī song continues:] ‘She sits holding her beloved māna, her face silent. In secret, the river's wave of joy is checked, as wind is held back when a mountain stands between. (1) Make the effort while the water has not yet risen and the destructive anger of rasa has not mounted. Kṛpānivāsa says that Raghunandana tells the wise companion: “Go, friend.” The singular companion goes and falls at her feet; the proud one's left arm and eye begin to twitch. She has brought the chosen hero's letter of love—listen, brimming with cleverness. (2) The companions circle around and coax her, while she sits displaying mischievous resolve. Kṛpānivāsa says: tell me, accomplished lady, what argument of rasa can fill this breach?’ Doha: ‘Looking toward her companion's feet, she sits and softly smiles; glancing slightly downward, she arches and tosses her eyes and nose.’ Rāga Aḍaṇā, four-beat tāla: ‘Graceful bride, laden with good fortune and love, I offer myself to your—’ [the song continues on the next page].
