Fresh English translation
[Lāla-jī's spell continues:] ‘—cast his magic. He came and, looking at me with a gaze full of feeling, departed as the beloved of my heart. (1) When love arose, my mind grew cool; when love fastened upon me, my body burned. Kṛpānivāsa says: call him—let him come and restore to life the one whom love has slain. (2) Listen, beloved Rāma: from where did you draw this magic? Your eyes are magicians, and your glance is a spell carefully prepared. Kṛpānivāsa has fallen under your power and offers up life, breath, and treasure. (3)’ Rāga Kānhṛā, mūlatāla: ‘That proud, mind-stealing Rāma has made me subject to him, taken away my all, and thrown a veil of intoxication over me. Kṛpānivāsa has forgotten self and every other possession; only the beloved remains.’ Rāga Ṣamāca, mūlatāla: ‘The dark beloved has bewitched my mind.
