Fresh English translation
[The khyāl continues:] ‘This heart is caught in love's snare. Kṛpānivāsa, your captive, places a plea before you. Ah, when will Raghulāla come? When will you show mercy to me and keep your promise? These eyes thirst for the nectar of your form; their cry rises—come. Quench the burning of my heart. Kṛpānivāsa begs the son of Daśaratha: make me your own and accept me. Show me but a glimpse of your face.’ Rāga Hamīr, mūlatāla: ‘Weary from asking tree after tree and searching the forest, the beloved came and sat upon the finest riverbank. Like a wish-granting creeper without its tree, she withers, bending again and again, her body limp. (1) Her companions hold and steady her; fearing the wind and the circling bees, each grasps the cloth at her waist. Kṛpānivāsa says: how long will the lord remain far away—dark Rāma, the rasika, the thief of my heart? (2)’
