Fresh English translation

[The previous song continues:] ‘Friend, how can I live? Every hour, every moment, I find no rest, like the cakora yearning for the moon. (1) Beloved, with your eyes you brought me under rasa's power and stole my very heart. Kṛpānivāsa says that Śrī Rāma, the cord of my life, remains displeased.’ Rāga Jangalā, mūlatāla: ‘Who but Hari knows my heart? Through all eight watches I find no rest, for my thirst for darśan has grown. Longing has struck; its wound falls upon a body whose strength is slight. Rāma the rasika, says Kṛpānivāsa, take notice now of this woman in separation. Cries rise in my heart night and day. The fire of attachment has burned me to charcoal; though burned again and again, it is blown alive once more. (1) Struck at the heart's core, I lie as one dead, and the fresh blow never misses. Rāma the rasika, hear this separated woman's cry. Why make my eyes yearn and burn within? O Lord of Ayodhyā, show mercy and reveal that beautiful form—’ [the song continues on the next page].
