बचन चाठुरी मानदें, अधिक बढ़ाइ नारि ॥१॥ राज्य ईसता मानगज, अंकुस नेह नवीन । करें स्ववस मदमत्तको, धारक होय प्रबीन ॥ सखिजनमन की प्रीत गरवताई राम चतुरपाई जा- न । माननसन हित नेहसर भय देखत अंतरध्यान । श्रीहत भई मानो चंददुरे कुहरजनी बाला विक- लित प्रान । कृपानिवास श्रीरामरसिक रटि हेरत बिसारि सयान ॥१॥ तैंडे छिपनेदा कौनसुभाव पयावो हृदयामेंश्री ज्यौं मिलकै प्यारे बिछुर लौन क्यों हारदया । कहर दूरकर नजर मेहरभर पलक पहरसी बीतगया ॥ कृपानिवास राममतवारे प्यारे करिये आजमया ॥२॥ स्यामसलौने मिलजाना अवधि के छैलप्यारे ॥ टेक ॥ तुजबिन अँखियां तर्फैं मेंडी जल बिन मीन ज्यौं न्यारे । कृपानिवा- स रासमें छिपना बाँके खेलतुम्हारे । लगन लगी

Fresh English translation

[The opening doha continues:] Clever speech bestows honor, and a woman increases it further. (1) Sovereignty is the elephant of pride, while fresh love is its goad; a skilled bearer brings the rut-maddened beast under control. Clever Rāma knew the proud love within the companions' hearts and disappeared from sight for the sake of their love and honor. Bereft of splendor, the young women became like a dark night whose moon is far away, their lives distraught. Kṛpānivāsa says that Rāma's rasikas search for him, forgetting all composure. (1) ‘What manner of hiding is this? You had made your place in my heart. Beloved, after meeting me, why part and lose heart? Remove this calamity and fill your gaze with mercy; a single blink has passed like a whole watch of the night. Rāma, intoxicated with rasa, show mercy today.’ (2) ‘Dark and handsome one, come meet me, beloved charmer of Ayodhyā.’ Refrain. ‘Without you my eyes wander; I am like a fish parted from water. Kṛpānivāsa says that hiding in the rāsa is your graceful play. Such longing has arisen—’ [the song continues on the next page].
