Fresh English translation
[The Bihāg song continues:] The companions smilingly arrange every hue and every adornment, casting their arms about the two. Their beautiful friends compose collyrium for the eyes; quick glances move in every direction, hunting the hearts of messengers. (4) Arms around necks, they turn within the rāsa circle; a companion plays the vīṇā with singular art. Some are absorbed in Sītā's beauty and intoxicated by her radiance, bright as an autumn night. Accomplished companions play and sing, drawing out vīṇā and tāna through their very bodies. Sometimes they delight the rasikas, sometimes make them laugh, bowing as they take up self-offering. This wondrous joy cannot be spoken; even Śeṣa's speech is defeated. Only one who is qualified knows the secret play of Jānakī's beloved, says Kṛpānivāsa. Rāma's secret has made the rāsa of rasa into an elixir. The pleasure-garden becomes an imperishable city of joy, covered everywhere by the swing's shade. (1) Refrain. The rāsa circle shines upon the ground, the entire company arranged around it. Śiva and Nārada—[the song continues on the next page].
