[The preceding Yaman song concludes:] Kṛpānivāsa, in the persona of a companion, gazes upon the face. (7) Mūla tāla. The companions set an auspicious meal before Rāma: nuts, magad, savory foods, rock sugar, milk-confections, and sweets. Jānakī eats; morsel by morsel, they jest and become replete with delight. Kṛpānivāsa, as a companion, offers water and gives it for rinsing the mouth. After the first rāsa, amid every joyful preparation, the companions perform ārati filled with delight. Small cymbals, large cymbals, mṛdaṅga, and vīṇā all sound while graceful songs are sung. A tray bears lotus and camphor lights and sandalwood fragrances; the compact printed line then names offerings to Sītā's beloved involving water or feet, gems, and flowers. Kānhṛā, four-beat tāla. Rāma the adept plays the vīṇā, absorbed in melody: three grāmas, twenty purachanīs, ascent, descent, and further qualities—[the song continues on the next page].
