Ravana's Disguised Spies Forget Themselves While Watching Rama

Demon spies pass among the forest host wearing deceptive monkey forms. Their task is to observe every movement, count strength, discover intention, and carry the hidden shape of Rama's camp back to Lanka.
They see more than formations. Before them Vibhishana is welcomed, embraced, granted devotion, named king, and seated near the Lord he approached in fear. Rama's love for the one who seeks refuge becomes impossible to measure as mere military intelligence.
Within their own hearts, the spies begin to praise his virtues. The praise is not part of their disguise, for no watching monkey can hear it there. They were sent to steal secrets, yet the deepest secret works upon the observers themselves. Hidden inside enemy forms, they become unwilling witnesses to compassion.
The spies enter to measure Rama's army and find their own hearts measuring his mercy.

सकल चरित तिन्ह देखे धरें कपट कपि देह। प्रभु गुन हृदयँ सराहहिं सरनागत पर नेह।।51।।
All their movements those spies observed, having assumed the deceptive forms of monkeys. In their hearts they praised the Lord's virtues and His love for all who seek His refuge.
