Rama Calls the Weary Armies to Witness the Final Single Combat

After the illusion dissolves, Rama looks again upon everyone gathered across the field. His gaze passes over vanaras, bears, gods, and the warriors worn by a battle that has consumed armies and altered the ground beneath them.

He speaks in a voice deep and grave. Let all of you behold the single combat now, he says. Even the greatest heroes have become exceedingly weary in this struggle.

The command changes the scale of the war. Countless bodies that have carried the contest through siege, storm, river, and illusion are asked to become witnesses. Rama does not overlook their exhaustion or demand one more collective assault. He recognizes it, gathers the field into still attention, and steps toward the final encounter himself. The many will watch while the conflict narrows to the two figures toward whom every earlier movement has been leading.

Rama sees the weariness of every hero and draws the whole war into the final space between himself and Ravana.
