Hanuman Asks Whether the Lord of All Worlds Has Taken Human Form

Hanuman's questions widen beyond the identities of two wandering princes. Perhaps the figures before him are the cause from which the world itself has come, walking now upon the world they caused.
Perhaps this is the one who carries beings across the ocean of becoming and removes the burden pressing upon the earth. Tender feet upon stones may conceal the power by which creation is rescued.
At last Hanuman asks whether the sovereign of all the worlds has assumed a human incarnation. The question passes through the student's disguise toward a recognition not yet complete. Before Rama answers his name, Hanuman's own speech has already circled the truth.
Before he recognizes Rama, Hanuman's question has already bowed before the Lord of every world.

जग कारन तारन भव भंजन धरनी भार। की तुम्ह अकिल भुवन पति लीन्ह मनुज अवतार।।1।।
Or are you the very cause of all creation, the one who ferries souls across the ocean of worldly existence, who destroys the burden of the earth? Are you the Lord of all the worlds, who has taken birth in human form?
