The lord of Ayodhya sets out for his city. Drums and trumpets answer the motion of chariots, horses, elephants, palanquins, and the long royal company turning from Mithila toward home.
Above them the gods rain flowers, while apsaras send sweet song through the sky. Heaven blesses the same departure that leaves the earth wet with tears.
Dasharatha travels joyfully, carrying four sons and four daughters toward Ayodhya. The procession now holds two emotional worlds at once: fulfilment moving forward and separation receding behind. Celestial blossoms descend upon the road between them, making the journey itself a garland joining the two kingdoms.
Beneath flowers and heavenly song, the road to Ayodhya opens before the four newly married couples.
