Again and again Ram has called Parashurama a sage and the best of Brahmins. Each address offers the axe-bearer a path back toward the sacred identity beneath his fury.
Bhrigu's lord answers with an angry laugh. He hears humility as irony and reverence as refusal to acknowledge the warrior whose deeds made kings tremble.
His reply is sharp enough to resemble Lakshmana's speech, though it comes from the one who condemned that sharpness. Anger has drawn the opponents into likeness. Ram remains gentle between them, calling the warrior a Brahmin until the name can become true again. The sound of Parashurama's laughter reveals how far he still stands from receiving it.
Ram keeps naming the Brahmin; Parashurama laughs from inside the warrior he cannot yet release.

Again and again the great sage, that noblest of Brahmins, called out to Rama, 'O Rama!' Then Bhrigu's lord spoke with an angry laugh, his words as sharp as his brother's were gentle.
