One friend imagines the sorrow if marriage does not join the princes to Mithila. Their city walk will end, the travellers will depart, and another sight of Ram and Lakshmana may lie forever beyond reach.
A meeting of such beauty cannot be arranged by ordinary desire. It comes only when vast merit has been gathered through many former lives, ripening into one moment at a window.
The women therefore recognize darshan as grace even while longing for relationship. Their eyes have received a treasure no effort in this single day could earn, and love immediately fears losing what has barely arrived.
Mithila receives one passing glimpse and feels the weight of merit gathered across lives.

नाहिं त हम कहुँ सुनहु सखि इन्ह कर दरसनु दूरि। यह संघटु तब होइ जब पुन्य पुराकृत भूरि।।222।।
"Otherwise, listen, sakhi. The sight of them would be far beyond our reach. Such a meeting comes to pass only when one has gathered vast merit from lives long past."
