Vishwamitra sends the brothers to see Mithila and return. The permission carries a blessing larger than sightseeing, for the treasure of all happiness will now move through public streets.
Everyone they meet is to receive a fruitful vision. Eyes used for commerce, duty, comparison, and ordinary appearance will behold the beauty in which joy itself takes form.
Ram and Lakshmana do not need to preach as they walk. Their presence gives the fruit. The city becomes a field of darshan, and each person who looks from road, doorway, roof, or window receives a moment of fulfilment.
The sage sends two princes into Mithila to make a whole city's seeing complete.
Read the passage from the Manas
जाइ देखी आवहु नगरु सुख निधान दोउ भाइ। करहु सुफल सब के नयन सुंदर बदन देखाइ।।218।।
"Go, see the city and return, O you two brothers, you who are the treasure of all happiness. Make fruitful the eyes of everyone you meet, for your beauty (sundarata) bestows nothing but joy."
