Yajnavalkya reveals why he began with Shiva's story. Before entrusting the heart of Ram Katha, he wished to know the hidden quality of his listener.
Bharadvaja's tears, reverence, and unforced love have answered. He is a pure servant of Ram, free from the distortions that divide Hari from Hara. His wet eyes are the seal upon the teacher's discernment.
The test required no argument or doctrine. The response of the heart to Shiva showed whether it was spacious enough to receive Ram. Love recognized love before the great narration had even begun.
The gate to Ram Katha opens through the listener's love for Shiva.
