The path toward the Manas cannot be crossed empty handed. Shraddha is the traveller's strength and the provisions earned through good action sustain each difficult mile. The company of saints keeps the road from vanishing where confusion thickens.
Most necessary of all is love for Raghunath. Without that tenderness, the sacred lake may lie near in word and page yet remain inaccessible in experience. Its water cannot be taken by an indifferent heart.
Faith, holy companionship, and love do not purchase entry. They make the traveller capable of seeing the entrance that grace has already opened.
With saints beside him and Ram dear within him, the traveller sees the lake at last.
Read the passage from the Manas
जे श्रद्धा संबल रहित नहि संतन्ह कर साथ। तिन्ह कहुँ मानस अगम अति जिन्हहि न प्रिय रघुनाथ।।38।।
Those who lack shraddha (faith) and the provisions of good deeds, who do not keep the company of saints, and to whom Raghunath is not dear: for them this Manas lake is utterly beyond reach.
