Four beautiful flights of stone descend toward the holy water. Upon one, Shiva speaks with Parvati. Upon another, Yajnavalkya sits before Bharadvaja. Kakabhushundi and Garuda meet upon the third. Upon the fourth, Tulsidas addresses the assembly of saints.
Each dialogue is a ghat, shaped by thoughtful wisdom so that a different listener may approach the same depth. Their steps do not divide the lake into four waters. They make one water accessible through four sacred relationships.
Teller and hearer sit face to face at every entrance. Between them, the Manas waits to be entered.
Four conversations descend by separate steps and touch the same water.
Read the passage from the Manas
सुठि सुंदर संबाद बर बिरचे बुद्धि बिचारि। तेइ एहि पावन सुभग सर घाट मनोहर चारि।।36।।
The four supremely beautiful and excellent dialogues, composed with thoughtful wisdom, are the four lovely ghats (bathing steps) of this holy and graceful lake.
