Bharata does not ask merely for leave to depart. He asks for a way to survive the interval between this darshan and the next.
By what practice may a servant once again reach the compassionate Friend of the lowly? The fourteen years must be given an inward form, or time will remain only separation.
Instruction can turn absence into direction. Bharata asks Rama to make every coming day a step toward renewed sight, so governance, restraint, remembrance, and longing all become parts of one path leading back to the Lord.
Bharata asks Rama to transform fourteen years of absence into a road whose every day moves toward seeing him again.

जेहिं उपाय पुनि पाय जनु देखै दीनदयाल। सो सिख देइअ अवधि लगि कोसलपाल कृपाल।।313।।
"By whatever means a servant may once again behold the compassionate Lord of the lowly, grant me that teaching to sustain me until the exile's end, O merciful Protector of Kosala."
