Both assemblies stand poor in spirit and wounded by grief. Men and women seek one good that will heal love, preserve truth, and restore right order.
Indra also says he seeks an auspicious outcome, yet his mind is deeply stained. His method brings distress and destruction upon the very people whose welfare forms the visible question.
The contradiction reveals the corruption of self-interest. A desired end may be called good while the path toward it kills clarity, trust, and peace. The verse refuses to separate means from blessing: fortune produced through the ruin of others already carries misfortune within it.
Indra calls his goal auspicious, but the grief left by his method exposes the death hidden inside self-interested good.

Seeing both assemblies of men and women stricken with grief and distress, Indra (Maghavaa), greatly troubled and stained, desires good fortune while bringing death and ruin.
