Rejected by Sarasvati, the gods do not immediately abandon their private aim. Self-interest stains discernment and turns divine capacity toward crooked counsel.
They weave their own net of maya, not with the clarity of sacred purpose, but with fear, delusion, aversion, and restless unease. These forces need not prove an argument. They only need to disturb the stillness from which truth might be seen.
The verse exposes a familiar inward heaven. When wisdom refuses to justify desire, the mind may summon confusion to obscure what it already knows. Bharata's heart remains the test: can any manufactured darkness survive where devotion has made Rama continuously present?
When Sarasvati will not deceive for them, the fearful gods manufacture the fog of fear and confusion with their own impure counsel.

सुर स्वारथी मलीन मन कीन्ह कुमंत्र कुठाटु।। रचि प्रपंच माया प्रबल भय भ्रम अरति उचाटु।।295।।
The selfish gods, their minds impure, devised wicked counsel and cunning schemes. They wove a web of powerful maya, spreading fear, delusion, and restless dread.
