Bharata imagines Sita, Ram, and Lakshmana judging him through his mother's demand. In his mind, association itself makes him worthy of blame.
Whatever response they choose would still be less than his fault deserves. Rejection, anger, or distance cannot violate a claim he refuses to make.
Yet beneath self-condemnation a quiet prayer remains. May they forgive his faults and receive him after seeing the truth of his heart. Bharata does not ask innocence to be announced before the world. He asks only to be known by the beloved. The plea rests upon Ram's vision rather than Bharata's ability to defend himself.
Bharata approaches prepared for any rejection, asking only that Ram look once toward the truth hidden within his heart.

मातु मते महुँ मानि मोहि जो कछु करहिं सो थोर। अघ अवगुन छमि आदरहिं समुझि आपनी ओर।।233।।
Holding me guilty on account of my mother, whatever they choose to do would still be too little. May they forgive my sins and faults, and receive me with grace, seeing the truth of my heart.
