Bharata Orders the Kingdom as an Act of Obedience

Bharata begins where grief might have dissolved responsibility. He instructs ministers and faithful servants, giving each the work and guidance proper to them. He calls Shatrughna close and places all service of the mothers in his hands, joining royal order to the tenderness of a son's duty.
Before the Brahmins, Bharata bows with joined palms. Whether a task is high or low, pleasant or difficult, he asks them to command him without hesitation. He summons family, citizens, and subjects, consoles their troubled hearts, and settles them securely. The kingdom is restored not through display, but through attention offered person by person.
Then the brothers return to the guru's house. Prostrate before Vasishtha, Bharata asks permission to remain nearby in service. Affection thrills through the sage's body as he answers that whatever Bharata understands, speaks, and does will become the essence of dharma in the world. The disciple receives trust more weighty than a crown.
Bharata makes administration a form of kneeling, and the guru recognizes dharma in every obedient act.

सचिव सुसेवक भरत प्रबोधे। निज निज काज पाइ पाइ सिख ओधे।। पुनि सिख दीन्ह बोलि लघु भाई। सौंपी सकल मातु सेवकाई।। भूसुर बोलि भरत कर जोरे। करि प्रनाम बय बिनय निहोरे।। ऊँच नीच कारजु भल पोचू। आयसु देब न करब सँकोचू।। परिजन पुरजन प्रजा बोलाए। समाधानु करि सुबस बसाए।। सानुज गे गुर गेहँ बहोरी। करि दंडवत कहत कर जोरी।। आयसु होइ त रहौं सनेमा। बोले मुनि तन पुलकि सपेमा।। समुझव कहब करब तुम्ह जोई। धरम सारु जग होइहि सोई।।
Bharata instructed his ministers and faithful servants, giving each one guidance suited to their respective duties. Then he called his younger brother Shatrughna and gave him a sacred charge: the devoted service of all the mothers. Calling the Brahmins, Bharata joined his palms, bowed before them, and spoke with the humblest of entreaties. Whether the task be high or humble, good or ordinary, please give your commands freely. I shall carry them out without hesitation. He called together the family members, citizens, and subjects, consoled them all, and settled them in peaceful contentment. With his brother, he went once more to the guru's house, prostrated in full dandavat, and spoke with palms joined in prayer. If you give your permission, I shall stay nearby in devoted service. The sage replied, his body trembling with affection. Whatever you understand, whatever you say, whatever you do: that very thing shall become the essence of dharma in this world.
