Complete song 244 of 330

Vibhīṣaṇa went, fell at his mother’s feet, and told her the whole account. Again and again she consoled him: “Son, what if he kicked you? After all, he is your elder brother. (1) He is your master, like a father, and the crest-jewel of the demon race; even his dishonor of you increases your honor.” Seeing him sink in dejection, she respectfully instructed him: “Anger brings fault, while patient understanding brings welfare. (2) Turning away from here and going to Rāma’s refuge contains some good, but protecting the social order completely is greater good.” Tulsī says Vibhīṣaṇa bowed his head at his mother’s feet, received her blessing, and set out amid auspicious signs, saying, “My heart’s desire is fulfilled.” (3)
