You know what lies in every heart; even so, Compassionate One, I offer a plea. Kindly hear the petition of this servant, for you cherish the lowly. (1) These servants are always utterly single-minded, as the cātaka bird has the cloud alone for refuge. Remembering this, go to the sacred city and remove the unbearable anguish of your own people. (2) Regard my life as that of a serpent that continues living after the jewel of its hood is lost. Lord of Kosala, erase this stain upon the lineage and command me to remain in the forest. (3) Whatever fault you find in me arose from this body’s birth from an evil mother. Tulsīdāsa says: remove every fault, Lord, and now uphold the honor of your own vow. (4)
