As soon as Sītā went with Raghupati, The people and women of the city, distraught by separation, said, ‘Friend, this is a terrible injustice.’ (1) One said, ‘The king does ill: for the sake of glass he is casting aside a host of jewels.’ Another said, ‘Kaikeyī is an ill-fated vine of the royal line, now laden with sorrow's poisonous fruits.’ (2) One said, ‘Is Jānakī fit for the forest? Fate is terribly contrary and mighty.’ Tulsī says that day even the thunderbolt's hardness cracked and shattered. (3)
