Chapter Eight: Literature of the Rasika Tradition in Hindi
The Couple’s recreation in the pleasure pavilion and the other bowers—this is the second, exalted relationship.
Do not speak of it to anyone who has not become a recipient of grace; guard it as secretly as a mantra.
The ocean of compassion, the wedded Pair Sita-Rama, sport through all eight watches in the company of their bee-like companions.
In every bower, every woodland, and every garden they roam with hearts brimming with love.
The Lord holds the vow of fidelity to one wife within his heart; this mystery remains concealed and few understand it.
Every bower is the Lord’s cosmic form, and the universe itself assumes the form of a bower.
Wherever Sri Sita-Rama sport, innumerable souls serve them.
Noble devotees firmly establish the feminine disposition in their hearts and repeat the Name.
Abandoning the phenomenal world, they contemplate the Couple’s deeds and sing of Sita-Rama.
Raghurāja-vilāsa
Sri Raghuraj Singh Ji Maharaj
This work was printed and published by the Naval Kishore Press in 1924. It contains songs about the swing festivals of Lord Krishna and Rama, love narratives, and Holi. Its concluding portion includes several devotional songs of loving supplication.
Examples:
Friend, set up a swing upon the bank of the Sarayu—Sita-Rama are swinging!
The clouds gently, gently shower their drops;
They fall like newly opened jasmine buds.
Green groves spread their colour, while lightning flashes again and again in every direction.
O lovely women, give the swing a sudden push!
The Beloved’s beauty brings repose to the eyes.
Sri Raghuraj’s every sorrow has vanished;
All the desires of his heart have been fulfilled.
Bliss prevails through all eight watches.
The two swing in the bower, drenched by the rain.
The beloved’s gentle words have captivated Sita,
And Sita’s gentle words have captivated him.
Sita starts in alarm and Hari steadies her;
Holding Sita’s hand, he smiles.
