Chapter Six: The Rasika Lineage of Rama Worship

—53. Sri Dariyananda; 54. Sri Siyananda; 55. Sri Hariyananda; 56. Sri Raghavananda; 57. Sri Ramananda; and 58. Sri Anantananda. Here the title “Ananda” ends.

  1. Sri Payahari Krishnadas; 60. Sri Agradas.

7. The Mantra-rāja-paramparā list

Rasikbihari Sharan of village Satmalpur, post Samastipur, district Darbhanga, sets out a lineage in his printed book Mantra-rāja-paramparā. Readers who wish to inspect it may obtain the volume. It differs from all five preceding types, for it says that Rama gave the mantra-king to Janaki, Janaki gave it to Mahashambhu, Mahashambhu gave it to Vishnu, and so forth.

Seven types of lineage lists thus stand before us, and their numerous differences are visible. This lineage suggests that Ramananda Svami did not belong to the family of Ramanuja Svami. It begins not with Sriman Narayana, but with Rama:

  1. Lord of all, Sri Ramachandra Maharaj
  2. Sri Janaki
  3. Sri Hanuman
  4. Sri Brahma
  5. Sri Vasishtha
  6. Sri Parashara
  7. Sri Vyasa
  8. Sri Shukadeva
  9. Sri Purushottamacharya
  10. Sri Gangadharacharya
  11. Sri Sadacharya
  12. Sri Rameshvaracharya
  13. Sri Dvarananda
  14. Sri Devananda
  15. Sri Shyamananda
  16. Sri Shrutananda
  17. Sri Chidananda
  18. Sri Purnananda
  19. Sri Siyananda
  20. Sri Haryananda
  21. Sri Raghavananda
  22. Sri Ramananda Svami Maharaj.

Thus the mantra-king passes from Rama to Ramananda. This Agrasvami lineage agrees closely with a verse of the Sadāśiva Saṃhitā
