[Iktal, Raag-Basant] Ever-new is ‘Kishor’ (Śrī Kṛṣṇa), ever-new is ‘Nagari’ (Śrī Rādhā), everything is adorned in fresh splendor. Ever-new is Vṛndāvana, ever-new are the blossoms, and ever-new is the king of seasons, spring (Basant). As Basant, the king of seasons, arrives, Śrī Vṛndāvana glows with ever-new splendor, its blossoming flowers brimming with freshness. Ever-youthful is Kṛṣṇa, and ever-youthful are all the gopis, among whom Śrī Vrishabhanu Nandini (Śrī Rādhā) gracefully dances with Lālajī in perfect harmony. The freshness of spring is further enhanced by the newly blossomed branches of fragrant sandalwood trees. Ever-new priceless garments are adorned with fresh saffron sprays, and the ever-radiant gopis, who wear these divine attires, appear ever-new, soothing the burning pangs of love. Ever-new colors of gulala (scented powder), fresh abira, and vibrant roli (vermilion) are playfully tossed into the air. Ever-fresh is the breeze swaying gently, ever-fresh is the music played in this king of seasons, Basant, on the banks of the Yamunā, says Śrī Bhata Devacharya.

Rādhā, Kṛṣṇa, and the sakhīs enter an exuberant Holī in Vṛndāvana with every implement of play prepared. Gulāl, fragrant saffron water, colored powders, and streams from syringes cover the golden heroine and dark hero like lightning wrapped around a cloud. Rādhā drenches Kṛṣṇa, the gopīs catch and make Him dance, and He returns laughing to spray and color them; hands clap, high songs and witty taunts ring out, and the muddy sea of color only swells Their unbroken delight.

To take shelter from the rain, Śrī Priyā and Priyatama stand beneath the dense nikunja groves, where even Kāmadeva himself serves to increase the bliss of Their loving pastimes. When shall these eyes behold that divie couple, Śrī Rādhā and Śrī Kṛṣṇa, standing embraced in one another’s arms as They are gently drenched by the falling rain? While singing this verse, Śrī Bhaṭṭa Devācārya Jī became absorbed in the following divine contemplation: “When shall I behold the beautiful rainclouds gathering in the sky, with the gentle rain falling all around? Śrī Lāḍilī Jī’s deep-blue veil and Lāl Jī’s upper garment (pitāmbara) are becoming drenched, while the divine Couple stand together beneath a creeper within a secluded nikunja. Alas! I have made no arrangement to protect Them from the rain.” As Śrī Bhaṭṭa Devācārya Jī remained absorbed in this loving thought, the clouds immediately gathered, a gentle shower began to fall, and a divine nikunja manifested before him.

Śrī Lālajī says - O Bhamini [Śrī Rādhā], the drizzle of rain is wetting your clothes, come under my elegant umbrella for a moment and get rid of the rain. Oh, Śrī Radhe Ju! My umbrella is so pretty. It's big enough for both of us as it was made just for us! Oh, Radhika! Your clothes and body might get soaked. Please join me beneath its shelter and dry off the wetness for a moment. [Iktal, Raag Malhar] One day, Śrī Priyā-Priyatama sat upon the bank of Śrī Yamunā near Vaṁśīvaṭa, joyfully gazing at Their playful reflections dancing upon the water. To shield Themselves from the gentle shower of rain, They covered Themselves beneath a single black woolen wrap (kārī kamarī). Śrī Bhaṭṭa Jī says: Seated upon the bank of the Kālindī near Vaṁśīvaṭa, Śrī Priyā-Priyatama behold Their gently swaying reflections in the rippling water and experience supreme delight. At that very moment, tiny raindrops begin to fall from the clouds. Seeing the rain, the sakhīs lovingly spread over Them a single delicate black wrap woven with the finest threads. Beneath that dark covering, Yugala Kiśora, Śrī Śyāmā-Śyāma, appear lovingly embraced under the pretext of sheltering from the rain. Standing together beneath that one covering, Śrī Priyā-Priyatama appear indescribably beautiful. Describing that incomparable vision, Śrī Bhaṭṭa Jī says: just as rain falls upon a dark mountain while hidden gold shines from within, so too, beneath the black wrap during the rainfall, the golden effulgence of Śrī Priyā Jī shines forth in all its splendor.
