From sorrow, as in Lalita-mādhava 3.61: In anger let the serpent Kṛṣṇa bite the chest of King Kaṁsa, for Kaṁsa carried Hari far from here and stole the life of the cowherd settlement's lake. Alas, shame! Who can give shelter to this line of cowherd women, fish whose waves of breath grow faint, whose bodies roll upon the ground and whose eyes close from inward exhaustion?

Now the smoky condition: Heavenly woman, friend, why do your eyes bear witness with drops of water when you see the primeval Lord before you in Mathurā's courtyard? And why has the circle of your cheeks erupted in horripilation?

The blazing condition: Friend, your pair of thighs has become completely rigid, the vine of your body displays horripilation, and both your eyes have grown moist. Fortunate lotus-faced girl, from these signs I infer that the blue treasure has secretly attained the palm of your lotus hand.

Now the radiant condition, as in Vidagdha-mādhava 1.36: Drops of water from your lotus-radiant eyes make the ground muddy; your breaths make the cloth over your breasts dance from afar, pale-faced girl; and these continual masses of horripilation make your form uneven. I think the habit of hearing Mādhava's sweetness has itself become deeply practiced.

The fully radiant condition: Bathed in a waterfall from her eyes, wearing a pearl necklace of perspiration-water, covered by a bodice of abundant horripilation, and pale as sandalwood, Lalitā stands supported by a pillar. Her lovely speech falters, yet joined by her companion she shines prepared for a fresh meeting with you.

For example: Mādhava, hearing your flute, Rādhā produced a cloudy day through perspiration, quenched thirst with the waters of tears, and blossomed from the roots with rows of calf-like body hairs. She became so like the goddess Sarasvatī that bewildered students now worship her as an image of learning.
