Now the methods of sending messages employed by these heroines, who rely upon helpers and thirst for union with Kṛṣṇa, are described beginning with the stage of preliminary love.

A messenger is celebrated here in two forms: the heroine herself and a trusted representative.

The self-messenger: A woman whose modesty has been shattered by intense eagerness and who, deeply bewildered by passion, approaches him herself is therefore known as a self-messenger.

Her personal appeals are said to be of three kinds: verbal, bodily, and visual.

The verbal appeal: Here verbal expression is indirect alone, and it arises either from the words or from their meaning. Each of these two kinds of suggestion may concern Kṛṣṇa himself or someone standing before him.
