नवप्रियकमञ्जरीरचितकर्णपूरश्रियं विनिद्रतरमालतीकलितशेखरेणोज्ज्वलम् । दरोच्छ्वसितयूथिकाग्रथितवल्गुवैकक्षकृत् व्रजे विजयिनं भजे विपिनदेशतः केशवम् ॥ १॥

I worship Keśava, victorious in Vraja as he returns from the forest. Fresh priyaka buds make a splendid ornament for his ear; a crown woven of fully awakened mālatī flowers illumines him, and a lovely crosswise garland of newly opened yūthikā blossoms adorns his body.

पिशङ्गि मणिकस्तनि प्रणतशृङ्गि पिङ्गेक्षणे मृदङ्गमुखि धूमले शवलि हंसि वंशीप्रिये । इति स्वसुरभिकुलं तरलमाह्वयन्तं मुदा व्रजे विजयिनं भजे विपिनदेशतः केशवम् ॥ २॥

piśaṅgi maṇikastani praṇataśṛṅgi piṅgekṣaṇe mṛdaṅgamukhi dhūmale śavali haṃsi vaṃśīpriye | iti svasurabhikulaṃ taralamāhvayantaṃ mudā vraje vijayinaṃ bhaje vipinadeśataḥ keśavam || 2||

‘O Piśaṅgī! O jeweled-uddered one! O cow who bows her horns! O tawny-eyed one! O Mṛdaṅga-faced, smoky-colored, dappled, swanlike, flute-loving cows!’ Joyfully calling his restless herd by such names, Keśava returns victorious from the forest to Vraja. I worship him.

घनप्रणयमेदुरान् मधुरनर्मगोष्ठीकला विलासनिलयान् मिलद्विविधवेशविद्योतिनः । सखीन् अखिलसारया पथिषु हासयन्तं गिरा व्रजे विजयिनं भजे विपिनदेशतः केशवम् ॥ ३॥

nibaddhanavatarṇakāvalivilokanotkaṇṭhayā naṭatkhurapuṭāñcalairalaghubhirbhuvaṃ bhindatīm | kalena dhavalāghaṭāṃ laghu nivartayantaṃ puro vraje vijayinaṃ bhaje vipinadeśataḥ keśavam || 5||

Before him he quickly turns the herd headed by Dhavalā. Eager to see their newly born calves, the cows dance upon the tips of their strong hooves and seem to split the earth. I worship Keśava, victorious in Vraja as he returns from the forest.

पद्माङ्कततिभिर्वरां विरचयन्तमध्वश्रियं चलत्तरलनैचिकीनिचयधूलिधूम्रस्रजम् । मरुल्लहरिचञ्चलीकृतदुकूलचूडाञ्चलं व्रजे विजयिनं भजे विपिनदेशतः केशवम् ॥ ६॥

Rows of lotus-marked hoofprints create a lovely ornament upon the road. A smoky garland of dust rises from the moving, restless calves, while waves of wind toss the end of the cloth crowning his head. I worship Keśava, victorious in Vraja as he returns from the forest.

विलासमुरलीकलध्वनिभिरुल्लसन्मानसाः क्षणादखिलवल्लवीः पुलकयन्तमन्तर्गृहे । मुहुर्विदधतं हृदि प्रमुदितां च गोष्ठेश्वरीं व्रजे विजयिनं भजे विपिनदेशतः केशवम् ॥ ७॥

vilāsamuralīkaladhvanibhirullasanmānasāḥ kṣaṇādakhilavallavīḥ pulakayantamantargṛhe | muhurvidadhataṃ hṛdi pramuditāṃ ca goṣṭheśvarīṃ vraje vijayinaṃ bhaje vipinadeśataḥ keśavam || 7||

upetya pathi sundarītatibhirābhirabhyarcitaṃ smitāṅkurakarambitairnaṭadapāṅgabhaṅgīśataiḥ | stanastavakasañcarannayanacañcarīkāñcalaṃ vraje vijayinaṃ bhaje vipinadeśataḥ keśavam || 8||

Along the path he is worshiped by hosts of beautiful women with hundreds of dancing sidelong gestures mixed with the first shoots of smiles. The bee-tips of their eyes wander over the flower clusters of his chest. I worship Keśava, victorious in Vraja as he returns from the forest.

इदं निखिलवल्लवीकुलमहोत्सवोल्लासनं क्रमेण किल यः पुमान् पठति सुष्ठु पद्याष्टकम् । तमुज्ज्वलधियं सदा निजपदारविन्दद्वये रतिं दददचञ्चलां सुखयताद् विशाखासखः ॥ ९॥

idaṃ nikhilavallavīkulamahotsavollāsanaṃ krameṇa kila yaḥ pumān paṭhati suṣṭhu padyāṣṭakam | tamujjvaladhiyaṃ sadā nijapadāravindadvaye ratiṃ dadadacañcalāṃ sukhayatād viśākhāsakhaḥ || 9||

English translation

May Viśākhā's friend gladden the person who carefully recites in sequence these eight verses, which awaken the great festival of the entire company of cowherd maidens. May he grant that bright-minded person steady love for his two lotus feet.
