गतिगञ्जितमत्ततरद्विरदं रदनिन्दितसुन्दरकुन्दमदम् । मदनार्बुदरूपमदघ्नरुचिं रुचिरस्मितमञ्जरि मञ्जुमुखम् ॥ १॥

His gait rebukes the most intoxicated elephant; his teeth humble the lovely pride of jasmine buds. His radiance destroys the arrogance of the beauty of billions of Love-gods; his face is charming, with a cluster of graceful smiles.

The sounding flute steals the women's delight; his lotus eyes move beautifully with intoxication. He is devoted to play that opens the flood of rasa and is the destination of people wholly intent upon the supreme truth.

His movement adorns the land along the Yamunā's bank; his lovely feet are worshiped by the lords of the world. The beauty of his tender throat glows with a jeweled pendant, and he is made still more charming by a brilliant decorative mark.

His crest is encircled by restless, trembling curls; his arm has undertaken the bearing of the king of mountains. He danced upon the arena of the serpent king's hoods, and his heart longs to play in mountain caves.

हृदयालुसुहृद्गणदत्तमहं महनीयकथाकुलधूतकलिम् । कलिताखिलदुर्जयबाहुबलं बलवल्लवशावकसन्निहितम् ॥ ५॥

He gives the great sense of ‘mine’ to his tenderhearted friends; the abundance of his venerable stories shakes away the age of quarrel. All unconquerable strength is gathered in his arms, and he remains close to the strong young cowherds.

हितसाधुसमीहितकल्पतरुं तरुणीगणनूतनपुष्पशरम् । शरणागतरक्षणदक्षतमं तमसाधुकुलोपलचण्डकरम् ॥ ६॥

He is a wish-fulfilling tree for the desires of benevolent saints, and a fresh flower-arrow of Love for the company of young women. He is supremely expert at protecting those who take shelter, and a fierce sun upon the stone-like families of the wicked.

करपद्ममिलत्कुसुमस्तवकं बकदानवमत्तकरीन्द्रहरिम् । हरिणीगणहारकवेणुकलं कलकण्ठरवोज्ज्वलकण्ठरणम् ॥ ७॥

A cluster of flowers rests in his lotus hand. He is a lion against the maddened elephant-demons headed by Baka. The melody of his flute steals away herds of deerlike girls, and his throat shines with the voice of a sweet cuckoo.

रणखण्डितदुर्जनपुण्यजनं जनमङ्गलकीर्तिलताप्रभवम् । भवसागरकुम्भजनामगुणं गुणसङ्गविवर्जितभक्तगणम् ॥ ८॥

raṇakhaṇḍitadurjanapuṇyajanaṃ janamaṅgalakīrtilatāprabhavam | bhavasāgarakumbhajanāmaguṇaṃ guṇasaṅgavivarjitabhaktagaṇam || 8||

In battle he destroys the wicked and sanctifies the virtuous; from him grows the vine of fame that brings welfare to all people. His name and qualities are an Agastya who drinks the ocean of becoming, while his devotees remain free from attachment to material qualities.

गणनातिगदिव्यगुणोल्लसितं स्मितरश्मिसहोदरवक्त्रवरम् । वरदृप्तवृषासुरदारघनं घनविभ्रमवेशविहारमयम् ॥ ९॥

gaṇanātigadivyaguṇollasitaṃ smitaraśmisahodaravaktravaram | varadṛptavṛṣāsuradāraghanaṃ ghanavibhramaveśavihāramayam || 9||

He shines with divine qualities beyond all counting; his excellent face is the twin brother of rays of smiling light. He tore apart the mighty and proud bull-demon, and his playful dress carries the enchantment of a raincloud.
