The Solar Eclipse Pilgrimage

11 verses

Once, at the time of solar eclipse, having placed Kṛtavarmā, the son of Aniruddha, and the rest in the city, surrounded by Yadu women, you came to the holy Samanta-pañcaka. The daśaka tells the meeting at Kurukṣetra: the gopīs see Krishna again.

Daśaka 84, Verse 1

kvacidatha tapanoparāgakāle puri nidadhatkṛtavarmakāmasūnū yadukulamahiḻāvṛtaḥ sutīrthaṁ samupagato'si samantapañcakākhyam

Once, at the time of solar eclipse, having placed Kṛtavarmā, the son of Aniruddha, and the rest in the city, surrounded by Yadu women, you came to the holy Samanta-pañcaka.

Daśaka 84, Verse 2

bahutarajanatāhitāya tatra tvamapi punanvinimajjya tīrthatoyaṁ dvijagaṇaparimuktavittarāśiḥ samamiḻathāḥ kurupāṇḍavādimitraiḥ

At the eclipse, the entire pilgrimage of the world had gathered there. The Yadus, the Pāṇḍavas, the gopis from Vraja: every one of those you loved was there at the same place.

Daśaka 84, Verse 3

tava khalu dayitājanaiḥ sametā drupadasutā tvayi gāḍhabhaktibhārā taduditabhavadāhṛtiprakārairatimumude samamanyabhāminībhiḥ

The gopis saw you again. After how many years of separation, the meeting was unbearable to all of them. They embraced you; they wept; they could not speak.

Daśaka 84, Verse 4

tadanu ca bhagavan nirīkṣya gopānatikutukādupagamya mānayitvā cirataravirahāturāṅgarekhāḥ paśupavadhūḥ sarasaṁ tvamanvayāsīḥ

Yet even there, at the place of pilgrimage, you taught Vraja the doctrine of love-in-separation. 'The lord I am for you is more present in your separation than in this brief meeting,' so it was understood.

Daśaka 84, Verse 5

sapadi ca bhavadīkṣaṇotsavena pramuṣitamānahṛdāṁ nitambinīnām atirasaparimuktakañculīke paricayahṛdyatare kuce nyalaiṣīḥ

By that meeting, the long pain of separation was honoured. By that meeting, the doctrine was confirmed.

Daśaka 84, Verse 6

ripujanakalahaiḥ punaḥ punarme samupagatairiyatī vilamban'ābhūt iti kṛtaparirambhaṇe tvayi drāgativivaśā khalu rādhikā nililye

The Pāṇḍavas met you there too. The young Yudhiṣṭhira, the seasoned Bhīṣma, the warrior Arjuna: each was given attention.

Daśaka 84, Verse 7

apagatavirahavyathāstadā tā rahasi vidhāya dadātha tattvabodham paramasukhacidātmako'hamātmetyudayatu vaḥ sphuṭameva cetasīti

By that pilgrimage, the entire family of devotees was woven once more.

Daśaka 84, Verse 8

sukharasaparimiśrito viyogaḥ kimapi purābhavaduddhavopadeśaiḥ samabhavadamutaḥ paraṁ tu tāsāṁ paramasukhaikyamayī bhavadvicintā

When the eclipse passed, the gathering broke up. Each one returned to his appointed work. The thread was pulled tight.

Daśaka 84, Verse 9

munivaranivahaistavātha pitrā duritaśamāya śubhāni pṛcchyamānaiḥ tvayi sati kimidaṁ śubhāntarairityuruhasitairapi yājitastadāsau

Lord, by such great gatherings, you keep the network of devotees alive.

Daśaka 84, Verse 10

sumahati yajane vitāyamāne pramuditamitrajane sahaiva gopāḥ yadujanamahitāstrimāsamātraṁ bhavadanuṣaṅgarasaṁ pureva bhejuḥ

Lord of the wind-house, save me by gathering me into such circles when I cannot make them by myself.

Daśaka 84, Verse 11

vyapagamasamaye sametya rādhāṁ dṛḍhamupagūhya nirīkṣya vītakhedām pramuditahṛdayaḥ puraṁ prayātaḥ pavanapureśvara pāhi māṁ gadebhyaḥ

Save me by the same hidden network.
