the companions begin to sing auspicious songs. The dear groom agrees at last; the sister-in-law is won over, praises his obstinate grace, and kisses his cheek. After a hundred thousand entreaties, Dasharatha’s son accepts the request; with a gentle smile he works his wonder.

The Veil — Pada 109

Smiling, the beloved lifts Siya’s veil. The instant it rises and he beholds her beauty, Ayodhya’s cherished prince is utterly captivated. Siya smiles and makes him wholly her own; seeing it, her beloved is lost in wonder.

In that moment he abandons every pride in his own beauty; he gazes while Love prevents even the blink of an eye. The two are drowned together in the enchantment of all nine rasas; the joy of that sight becomes the guardian of their eyes.

Kohbar — Pada 110

In the golden palace, jewel-lamps shine behind golden doors; the kohbar is filled with delight. An ivory bed, pillows of flowers, and a quilt made of gems await; upon it sleeps Raghubara the bridegroom, with bride Sita at his left.

Blue and yellow silk and jeweled ornaments grace their dark and fair bodies. The bridegroom turns his face away to sleep, while the bride lies sulking. He takes her lotus cheek in the soft cloth, then draws her again and again against his heart.

Bride and groom touch one another’s limbs in joy, and tears fill their eyes. Jan Harinath says: the bliss of Raghunath and Siya lies beyond description.

Kohbar — Pada 111

A golden mansion, studded with gems and rubies, has sandalwood fitted upon its doors; the bridal night is lovely.
