hearing this, everyone bursts into peals of laughter!

“Bhagiratha’s clever ancestress was remarkably resourceful: she gave birth to sixty thousand sons in a single delivery! And that loose woman Shanta did not recognize a husband worthy of her— the whole world knows that she bound herself to an ascetic’s house.

“The women of Ayodhya are all exceedingly warmhearted; by eating sacrificial pudding they produced the beloved sons who are Moda’s very life. All those charming women are so captivating that one would offer everything to them; Paramananda swells with pride in his own household, friends!”

“Sages call you the essence of the universe—yet fear keeps them from speaking the truth. The Vedas say you are neither man nor woman; you perform your amorous play with Love. We can see it from your makara-shaped earrings and from your tender youthful age!

“Dasharatha is fair and Kausalya is fair—then from whose house did you acquire your dark complexion? Hari manifested through the contemplation of those two; thus he has become entangled with us! Hearing these clever, satirical wedding taunts, Rama looks toward the women. The gods, wholly fulfilled, pray: ‘Do not let him ever leave this city!’”

“Do not recite harsh wedding taunts to handsome bridegrooms like Rama and Lakshmana; merely ask two or four fitting questions in playful laughter. Friend, think carefully and answer the first question:
