Procession to the Wedding Pavilion — Pada 41
“Get down right here, dear boy, and walk to Lali's courtyard— from this point onward, go on foot; walk to Lali's courtyard! When you came from Ayodhya to Mithila, where was that palanquin then? Do not try to trick us—we are clever women. Walk to Lali's courtyard! All the people of your wedding party who have come riding are here; now come down and walk to Lali's courtyard! Everyone else has come on foot—what cause is there for shame? All those equal to you have already gone ahead. Walk to Lali's courtyard!” Hearing the women's affectionate teasing, the dear groom left his palanquin and stepped down; at that moment all began to rejoice: “He will walk to Lali's courtyard!”
Before Proceeding Further — Pada 42
“Listen for a moment to one request of mine; only after that should you set your foot forward. This place is famous for one custom: you must tell us the names of your mother and sister. A mother is a hundred times greater than a father— consider it yourself within your heart. Unless the women know your mother's name, how can they weave it into their wedding song?” Mod says: hearing this, Sita smiles softly in her sweet voice and casts a sidelong, playful glance.
