Seeing the beauty of Rama and Siya, the young women say to one another: “Friend, now we know—listen! The Creator is indeed a great master of his craft.” Auspicious songs resound, drums thunder through the city, and no one can contain the rising bliss. “Live long, all you sons of Ayodhya’s lord,” sings Tulsidasa, “givers of joy!”

Untying the Wedding Bracelet — Pada 160

What an extraordinary thing this bracelet of Siya’s has become! Even the treasure-house of every art is defeated while trying to untie it; all his pride has vanished. He broke Shiva’s bow and came away full of self-assurance, but now every trace of that conceit is gone.

The new bridegroom cannot fathom its secret; the more he tries to loosen it, the more bewildered he becomes. Yogeshvara, treasure of our lives, has lost within his own heart to the glances of darling Siya.

Pada 161

“Come now, show us your cleverness—untie this stubborn bracelet-knot! How did you turn a stone into a woman? How did you protect the sage’s sacrifice and destroy the whole host of demons? This is no Maricha whose pride you can break— untie this stubborn bracelet-knot!

“Janaka made his fearsome vow, and you crushed the pride of every warrior. Even Parashurama fought and lost to you— yet you have fallen into our snare! Twisting your eyes will not help you here— untie this stubborn bracelet-knot!

“You have enchanted the women of Janakpur; helplessly they have all become yours. Think of them as innocent women without defense, whom you conquered without a weapon. Do not go about stealing hearts that belong to others— untie this stubborn bracelet-knot!
