एक सत्य जो परम तत्त्व परमात्मा ब्रह्म ईश भगवान्। निर्गुण-गुणसह-निराकार, साकार-सगुण, सब भाँति महान्॥ नित्य, सच्चिदानन्द, सर्वमय, सर्वातीत, सर्व-आधार। विष्णु, सूर्य, दुर्गा, शिव, गणपति, राम-कृष्ण अवतार-उदार॥ अरहत्, बुद्ध, पिता ईसाके, अहुरमज्द, अल्लाह, प्रधान। प्रकृति, नियम, अणु, महत्, कर्म, कर्ता, अव्यक्त, स्वरूप-ज्ञान॥ सभी प्राणियोंमें विभक्त-से जो प्रतीत होते अविभक्त। वही उपास्य, उपासित होते विविध रूपमें हो अभिव्यक्त॥

एक परम प्रभु चिदानन्दघन परम तत्त्व हैं सर्वाधार। सर्वातीत, सर्वगत वे ही अखिल विश्वमय रूप अपार॥ हरि, हर, भानु, शक्ति, गणपति हैं इनके पाँच स्वरूप उदार। मान उपास्य उन्हें भजते जन भक्त स्वरुचि-श्रद्धा-अनुसार॥

The one Truth is the supreme Reality, Supreme Self, Brahman, Lord and Bhagavan. Beyond the gunas yet bearing qualities, formless yet embodied and qualified, great in every way. Eternal being, consciousness and bliss, pervading all, beyond all and foundation of all. Vishnu, Surya, Durga, Shiva, Ganapati, and the gracious incarnations Rama and Krishna. The Arhat, Buddha, Jesus's Father, Ahura Mazda, Allah and Pradhana. Nature, law, atom, cosmic intelligence, action, doer, unmanifest and knowledge of the Self. Appearing divided among all beings, He nevertheless remains undivided. That same worshipful One is worshiped when manifest in diverse forms.

The one Supreme Lord, condensed consciousness and bliss, is the supreme Reality and support of all. Beyond all yet pervading all, He alone is the limitless form of the entire universe. Hari, Hara, Bhanu, Shakti and Ganapati are His five gracious forms. Accepting them as worshipful, devotees worship according to their own taste and faith.

Splendidly dark as a raincloud, He wears a necklace of lotus, pearls and gems. The Kaustubha jewel, Bhrigu's footprint and divine Shrivatsa sport upon His chest. His eight mighty arms bear lotus, mace, sword, shield, discus, bow, arrow and conch. Earrings adorn His ears, bracelets and armlets His limbs, a jeweled crown His head and tilaka His noble brow.

वज्र-ध्वजा-अंकुश-सरसिजके मंगलमय चिह्नोंसे युक्त। उभरे हुए अरुण शोभामय नख-शशि-किरणोंसे संयुक्त॥ चिन्तन-कर्ताओंके हृदयोंका जो हरते तम अज्ञान। श्रीहरिके उन चरण-सरोजोंका मनसे नित करिये ध्यान॥ जिनकी धोवनसे निकली अति पावन भागीरथी उदार। शिव हो गये परमशिव जिसके शुचि जलको निज मस्तक धार॥ ध्याताओंके पाप-पर्वतोंपर निपतित जो वज्र-समान। श्रीहरिके उन चरण-सरोजोंका मनसे करिये चिर ध्यान॥ विधि-जननी श्रीलक्ष्मीजी जिनको अपनी गोदीपर धार। जलज-लोचना, देव-वन्दिता करती जिन्हें हृदयसे प्यार॥ कान्तिमान निज कर-कमलोंसे लालित करती अति सुख मान। अज भव-भय-हर हरिके दोनों घुटने-पिंडलीं शोभा-खान॥ जंघा बलनिधि, नीलवर्ण अलसीके कुसुम-सदृश सुन्दर। परम सुशोभित होती हैं जो ज्ञान-धाम खगपति ऊपर॥ रुचिर नितम्ब-बिम्ब युग पावन पीताम्बरसे परिवेष्टित। स्वर्णमयी कांचीकी लड़ियोंसे जो रहते आलिंगित॥ भुवन-कोश-गृह उदर-देशमें नाभि-कूप सौन्दर्य-निधान। ब्रह्माके आधार विश्वमय वारिजका उत्पत्तिस्थान॥ मरकत-मणि-समान दोनों स्तन वक्षःस्थलपर चमक रहे। शुभ्र हारकी किरणावलिसे गौरवर्ण हो दमक रहे॥

[858] Enchanting Meditation on Bhagavan Shri Vishnu
(Raga Desa - Tritala)
His feet bear the auspicious signs of thunderbolt, banner, goad and lotus. Their raised reddish nails shine with moonlike rays. They dispel the darkness of ignorance from contemplative hearts. Always meditate within the mind upon those lotus feet of Shri Hari. From washing them arose the supremely holy and generous Bhagirathi. Shiva became supremely auspicious by bearing its pure water upon his head. They fall like thunderbolts upon the mountains of meditators' sins. Meditate forever within the mind upon those lotus feet of Shri Hari. Shri Lakshmi, mother even of Brahma, holds His knees and calves in her lap. Lotus-eyed and worshiped by the gods, she loves them from her heart. With her radiant lotus hands she fondles them in great delight. The knees and calves of unborn Hari, destroyer of worldly fear, are mines of beauty. His powerful blue thighs are beautiful like flax blossoms. They shine supremely while resting upon Garuda, abode of knowledge. His lovely sacred hips are wrapped in yellow cloth and embraced by strands of a golden girdle. Within His abdomen, the treasury-house of worlds, His welllike navel is a mine of beauty, the birthplace of the cosmic lotus that supports Brahma. His two breasts shine upon His chest like emeralds, glowing fair beneath the rays of His white necklace.

पुरुषोत्तम हरिका मुनि-जन-मोहन विशाल अति उर उन्नत। नयन-हृदयको सुखदायक लक्ष्मीका जहाँ निवास सतत॥ अखिल लोक-वन्दित श्रीहरिका कम्बुकण्ठ शोभा-आगार। परम सुशोभित करता कौस्तुभ-मणिको भी अपनेमें धार॥ राजहंस-सम शंख सुशोभित कर-पंकजमें दिव्य ललाम। शत्रुवीर-रुधिराक्त गदा हरिकी प्रिय कौमोदकी सुनाम॥ वनमाला शोभित सुकण्ठमें मधुप कर रहे मधु गुंजार। जीवोंके मलरहित तत्त्वसम कौस्तुभमणि अति शोभा-सार॥ भक्तानुग्रहरूपी श्रीविग्रहका मुख-सरोज मनहर। सुघड़ नासिका, कानोंमें मकराकृत कुण्डल अति सुन्दर॥ स्वच्छ कपोलोंपर कुण्डल-किरणोंका पड़ता शुभ्र प्रकाश। इससे मुख-सरोजकी सुन्दरताका होता और विकास॥ कुंचित केश-राशिसे मण्डित मुख सब दिक् मधुमय करता। निज छविद्वारा मधुकर-सेवित कमल-कोशकी छवि हरता॥ नयन-कमल चंचल विशाल हरते उन मीनद्वयका मान। कमल-कोशपर सदा उछलते बनते जो शोभाकी खान॥ उन्नत भ्रुकुटि सुशोभित हरिके मुख-सरोजपर मन-हरणी। नेत्रोंकी चितवन अति मोहिनि सर्वसुखोंकी निर्झरणी॥ बढ़ती रहती सदा प्राप्तकर प्रेम-प्रसाद-भरी मुसकान। विपुल कृपाकी वर्षा करती हरती त्रय तापोंके प्रान॥ श्रीहरिका मृदु-हास मनोहर अति उदार शरणागत-पाल। तीव्र शोकके अश्रु-उदधिको पूर्ण सुखा देता तत्काल॥ भ्रूमण्डलकी रचना की मायासे प्रभुने मुनि-हित-हेतु। कामदेवको मोहित करने, जो तोड़ा करते श्रुति-सेतु॥ तदनन्तर हरिके मन-मोहक हँसनेका करिये शुभ ध्यान। जिससे अधर-ओष्ठकी विकसित होती अरुण छटा सुख-खान॥

Purushottama Hari's mighty raised chest enchants sages. Lakshmi eternally dwells there, bringing happiness to eye and heart. Shri Hari's conch-shaped neck, worshiped by all worlds, is an abode of beauty. Holding the Kaustubha within itself, it makes even that jewel supremely splendid. A conch like a royal swan shines divinely in His lotus hand. Hari's beloved mace, celebrated as Kaumodaki, is reddened with heroic enemies' blood. A forest garland adorns His lovely neck while bees hum sweetly around it. The Kaustubha, like the stainless essence within beings, is beauty's very essence. The lotus face of His grace-embodying form enchants the heart. His nose is well formed and beautiful makara earrings adorn His ears. Their rays cast pure light upon His clear cheeks, further increasing the beauty of His lotus face. Framed by masses of curling hair, His face fills every direction with honey and steals the beauty of a bee-served lotus bud. His great restless lotus eyes shame the pair of fish that forever leap upon the lotus pool and are mines of beauty. His high arched brows enchantingly adorn Hari's lotus face. The glance of His eyes is utterly captivating, a cascade of every happiness. It ever increases when it receives His smile filled with the gift of love, showering abundant grace and destroying the threefold afflictions. Shri Hari's gentle smile is enchanting and generous, protector of those who seek refuge. It instantly dries the ocean of tears born of intense grief. For sages' welfare, the Lord fashioned the circle of His brows through Maya to enchant even Kama, who breaks the sacred bounds of scripture. Then meditate auspiciously upon Hari's heart-captivating laughter, which makes the joyful reddish beauty of His lower lip blossom.

Beyond the three gunas, eternal, unborn, imperishable, without name, form or movement, He pervades everything like water in ice yet remains beyond and unattached. The nondual cause, Himself nondual, within whom all plurality is utterly absent, He is pure condensed awareness, truth, established in Himself, eternal and beyond conditioned feeling. Sun, moon and fire shine by receiving only a portion of His brilliance. He alone is the source of space, air, water, earth and fire. Foundation of the whole universe, He fashions countless guises within His Maya. He is transcendent witness, permitter, sustainer, experiencer, Lord and Supreme Lord. He is the peerless ocean of beauty's nectar-drenched abundance; all the three worlds' beauty is merely a tiny pitcher drawn from Him. Holding His nature under control, He makes the impossible happen through Yogamaya. The enchanter of the universe, a divine magician, assumes eternally fresh guises. He is everyone's all in all, knower of the Self and life-treasure of devotees. His own people are eternally delighted by His form of supreme bliss. More worshipful than life itself, He is an ever-new cascade of bliss. Embodied and qualified through submission to devotees, He is the sun of their heart lotuses. His gentle sweet smile steals awareness of life, mind and body. Beholding His lovely beauty releases concern for world, scripture, family and reputation. Gods, demons, sages and seers continually long for His vision. They practice austerity and discipline in many ways but do not easily attain Him.

जन्म-जन्मसे लगी हुई थी जिनके दर्शनकी आशा। रूप-सुधा-वारिधि-अवगाहनकी जिसके थी अभिलाषा॥ जिसने अपने मिलनेकी व्याकुलता भर दी थी मनमें। विरहानल था धधक उठा जिससे उसके सारे तनमें॥ वही ब्रह्म साकार प्रकट हो, अद्भुत दर्शन है देता। सत्वर अगणित जन्मोंकी अघ-राशि पूर्ण है हर लेता॥ यह साधन-विहीन था, कारण किंतु एक बलवान अपार। निश्चित ब्रह्मरूप गुरुवरकी थी अनुकम्पा-पारावार॥ उनकी प्रेम-रज्जुसे हरिको बँधना पड़ा स्वयं तत्काल। रखनी पड़ी अभय करनेको नत मस्तकपर भुजा विशाल॥ कोमल कर-स्पर्शसे जनको निर्भय नित्य पड़ा करना। चरण-स्पर्श, अभयवाणी, मधुर प्रसादसे दुःख हरना॥ उस छवि-राशि अमितका वर्णन करनेमें वाणी लाचार। मापा कभी न जा सकता है हाथोंसे आकाश अपार॥ भाग्यवती जिन आँखोंने वह देखी रूप-छटा अनुपम। तृप्त हो गयीं, नहीं बता सकती हैं, वर्णनमें अक्षम॥ वाणी कुछ प्रयास करती है, नेत्रोंका सहाय लेकर। मनमोहनके अतल रूपकी मधुर स्मृतिमें मन देकर॥ उस स्मृतिमें जाते ही तत्क्षण रूपमग्न मन हो जाता। मनके रुकते ही वाणीका काम नहीं कुछ हो पाता॥ रुकी लेखनी बंद हो गयी, चलता नहीं हाथ आगे। क्षमा कीजिये प्रेमी पाठक, सरल पाठिका सद्भागे॥ पूर्ण प्रेमसे मिल करके सब, करिये उनका प्रेमाह्वान। जिससे सत्वर पुनः प्रकट हों सबके सम्मुख श्रीभगवान्॥

Birth after birth, the hope of beholding Him had endured, along with longing to plunge into the ocean of His beauty's nectar. He had filled the heart with restlessness to meet Him, kindling the fire of separation throughout the entire body. That very Brahman now appeared embodied and granted a wondrous vision, swiftly removing the whole mass of sins from countless births. This person possessed no spiritual practice, yet one immeasurably powerful cause remained: the shoreless compassion of the revered guru, certainly Brahman embodied. Bound by the guru's rope of love, Hari Himself had to appear at once. He had to place His mighty arm upon the bowed head and grant fearlessness, reassure the devotee by His tender hand's touch, and remove sorrow through the touch of His feet, words of safety and sweet grace. Speech is helpless to describe that immeasurable abundance of beauty; the boundless sky can never be measured by one's hands. Fortunate were the eyes that saw that incomparable splendor. They became fulfilled but cannot tell of it, powerless to describe. Speech makes some effort with the eyes' assistance, placing the mind in sweet remembrance of Manamohana's bottomless beauty. The moment it enters that memory, the mind becomes absorbed in His form. When the mind stops, speech can do nothing more. The pen halted, closed; the hand cannot move ahead. Forgive me, loving reader and simple, fortunate lady reader. Come together in perfect love and lovingly invoke Him, so that Shri Bhagavan may swiftly appear again before everyone.

लक्ष्मी नारायण स्वयं, नारायण श्री रूप। एक तत्त्व दो बन रहें, जैसे छाया-धूप॥ मिलित एक ही देहमें दोनों बन अर्धांग। परम सुशोभित हो रहे, श्याम-स्वर्ण-दिव्यांग॥ गदा-चक्र हरि-हाथमें, श्रीकर शंख सुकंज। पीत-नील पट रुचिर अति भूषण आभा-पुंज॥ कमलासन, माला विमल, तिलक-बिंदु शुचि भाल। हेम-मुकुट सुषमा मधुर अमित महत्त्व विशाल॥

A divine orb of light shines, scattering rays in every direction. Within it a holy twelve-petaled lotus shines, crown of sacred beauty. At the lotus's center sits Bhagavan Vishnu, worshiped by gods, seers and sages. His blue-cloud body is consciousness and bliss; clad in yellow, He shines magnificently. Divine crown, earrings and Kaustubha adorn Him, with necklaces of pearls and jewels. His four mighty arms bear Sudarshana discus, mace, conch and lotus. His smile is sweet, His lotus face enchanting and His vast eyes shower nectar. All victory to the Lord of every world, whose tilaka shines upon His brow and dispels darkness!
[861] Lakshmi-Narayana United
(Raga Imana)
Lakshmi is Narayana Himself and Narayana is Shri's own form. The one Reality abides as two, like shade and sunlight. United within a single body, the two form its halves. Their dark and golden divine limbs shine supremely. Hari's hands bear mace and discus; Shri's hands hold conch and lovely lotus. Their yellow and blue garments are beautiful, their ornaments masses of splendor. They sit upon a lotus, wearing a stainless garland and pure tilaka upon the brow. Their golden crown has sweet beauty, limitless greatness and majesty.

नील-श्याम अद्भुत तेजोमय बालक कमल-नयन भुज चार। चक्र-गदा दक्षिण-कर शोभित, वाम शंख-पंकजकी धार॥ कौस्तुभमणि, श्रीवत्स वक्षपर उरमें रत्न, कुसुमके हार। अति सुन्दर पीताम्बर कटिमें, करधनि मणिमय शोभा-सार॥ मणिवैदूर्य-महार्घ-विनिर्मित मुकुट शीश, घुँघराले केश। चमक रहे अति सूर्य-रश्मिसे पाकर कुण्डल-कान्ति विशेष॥ भुज अंगद राजत, कर कंकण, रत्नाभरण सुशोभित वेश। परम मनोहर रूप-माधुरी सुन्दरताकी सीमा-शेष॥

देते सूर्य-सोम-मण्डलको, अग्निदेवको उज्ज्वल भास। अष्ट-कमलदलपर वे नित्य स्थित हैं नारायण श्रीवास॥ जिनके रोम-रोममें अगणित हैं ब्रह्माण्ड नित्य अव्यक्त। जो हैं कोटि-कोटि ब्रह्माण्डोंके अनन्त रूपोंमें व्यक्त॥ लीलामय वे लीला-कारण धरे विचित्र विविध बहु रूप। दर्शन हैं दे रहे चतुर्भुज विष्णु वही सब भाँति अनूप॥

(Raga Jauniya - Tala Kaharava)
A wondrous radiant child, blue-black, lotus-eyed and four-armed. Discus and mace shine in His right hands, conch and lotus in His left. Kaustubha and Shrivatsa adorn His chest, with jeweled and flower garlands upon His breast. A beautiful yellow garment and jewel-studded belt adorn His waist. An immensely precious crown fashioned of gems and cat's-eye jewels rests above His curling hair. His earrings shine with a brilliance exceeding the sun's rays. Armlets adorn His arms, bracelets His hands, and jeweled ornaments His splendid form. The sweetness of His supremely enchanting form is beauty's ultimate limit.
[863] The All-Illuminating, Luminous Bhagavan
(Raga Malakosha - Tritala)
He gives brilliant light to the orbs of sun and moon and to the god of fire. Narayana, abode of Shri, eternally stands upon an eight-petaled lotus. Within every pore of His body countless universes remain eternally unmanifest. He is manifest in infinite forms throughout millions upon millions of universes. Made of divine play and its cause, He assumes many diverse and wondrous forms. That same incomparable Vishnu now grants His vision in four-armed form.

Victory to Her filled with infinite splendor, destroyer of poverty! Victory to the mine of endless sovereignty, who sports in Hari's heart!

A flower garland rests upon Her neck, a jeweled crown upon Her head; She supports all the world's splendor. Four noble elephants auspiciously bathe Her from four beautiful golden vessels.

May divine power and its possessor, Shri Lakshmi-Narayana, grant auspicious blessings. May everyone's unrest and sorrow end, and may all attain great happiness and peace. [867] The Child Bhagavan upon the Banyan Tree in the Single Cosmic Ocean

Amid the unfathomable waters of that single cosmic ocean stood a vast banyan tree. Upon one branch a couch suddenly appeared. There sat an exceedingly beautiful lotus-eyed child. Beholding His blossoming lotus face, Sage Markandeya marveled and was blessed.

[870] Fire Blazed from the Bow's Twang
(Raga Narayani - Tintala)
The insolent demons suddenly came and attacked the gods. Hearing the gods' cries, Hari rose in anger and drew the mighty Kodanda bow. He fixed the string and pulled; a terrible twang resounded. A dreadful flame blazed and time's consuming fire surged with a roar. The entire demon host will now be destroyed, burned and dissolved. Thus, abandoning sin, injustice and wrongdoing, they too will become holy.

[871] Lakshmi Chooses Shri Hari

Gods and demons joined together and churned the boundless ocean. Poison emerged and the whole world began to burn. Seeing the world distressed, compassionate Shankara drank it. Everyone acclaimed victory and resumed the churning. Various jewels emerged, and then Shri appeared. Adorned in divine garments and ornaments, Her heart overflowed with joy. Carrying the wedding garland, She approached Hari. Choosing Her eternal husband once again, Lakshmi was fulfilled.
[872] The Battle between Hari and Hara
(Raga Puriya - Tala Rupaka)
Shiva, whose banner bears the bull, battled Hari to protect his devotee Banasura, for he cherishes devotees. Adorned with serpents and angrily bearing the terrible trident, he fought discus-bearing Hari while holding immense love in his heart. After countering countless weapons, Hari released the yawning missile. Hara began to yawn and forgot the great battle. The enraged Banasura then fought a terrifying war. Defeated in the end, Bana married his daughter Usha to Aniruddha.

Supreme beyond the supreme, God of gods and sovereign of Goloka, source of every incarnation, the Supreme Lord who descends. Moon of beauty enchanting millions upon millions of Cupids, His supremely attractive eyes steal the minds of ascetics, seers and sages. His divine dark body is blue as a fresh raincloud. He bears divine weapons and wears a peacock-feather crown. Ever devoted to protecting saints, He destroys wrongdoing. To establish dharma He bears the Sudarshana discus in His hand.
[874] Shri Krishna Breaks the Bow in Kamsa's Armory

Shri Balarama and Ghanashyama joyfully arrived in Mathura. Supremely enchanting and powerful, both lovely brothers were masses of brilliance. Naturally desireless, stealing eye and heart, They entered Kamsa's armory. Hari, abode of beauty, effortlessly broke the formidable bow.
[875] Shri Krishna and Arjuna Meet at Prabhasa Kshetra
(Raga Vihagada - Tintala)
Considering dharma, Arjuna protected a brahmin's cattle and joyfully accepted exile from the kingdom for twelve years. While visiting holy places, he reached Prabhasa on the ocean shore. Receiving news from messengers, Shri Krishna came to His friend. The holy friends Nara and Narayana embraced one another. An ocean of the nectar-rasa of love surged, creating a sweet, pure and wondrous state.

The unborn, imperishable Lord of all has an eternal, inconceivable nature. Supremely independent, He appeared in an incomparable conscious form. After performing lovely pastimes in Vraja, He became lord of Dvaraka. Submissive to devotees, the Lord of the universe became Partha's friend and charioteer. With His boon-bestowing hand He grants imperishable fearlessness. Bhagavan Krishna naturally befriends and cherishes those who seek refuge.
[877] The Divine Love of Shri Krishna and Arjuna

Sanjaya said, "King, I entered their inner chamber with great humility to deliver your message. When my astonished eyes beheld the infinite love between Shri Krishna and Arjuna, I understood that the Kuru dynasty would now certainly end. Who can defeat that Arjuna whom the all-powerful Lord loves so deeply? Who can preserve his own welfare against him? Arjuna had placed both the Lord's feet in his lap. Making the Lord eternally his own, he became blessed and his life filled with joy. One of Arjuna's feet rested in Queen Krishnaa's lap, while Satyabhama, lovingly competing, placed the other in hers. Seeing these two great souls together upon a single divine seat, I knew that dreadful fate was written upon Duryodhana's brow."

His pure divine body is sweet being, consciousness and bliss; He is Lord of the entire world. Supreme Lord of all, witness of all and indwelling Self within all, He establishes dharma, destroys the wicked and protects the good. Shri Krishna, remover of devotees' distress, Himself set out as an envoy of peace.
[879] Shyama Comes as a Guest to Vidura's House
(Raga Hamira - Tintala)
Shyama came as a guest to Vidura's house! Manamohana's lovely form from toenails to crown bore the beauty of millions of Cupids. Vidura was not at home at that moment, so Shyama began to call. Vidura's wife rose from her bath and ran, her eyes intoxicated with love's rasa. Forgetting her clothing and leaving the place where she had bathed, she lost all bodily awareness. Overcome by love and speaking awkwardly, she brought bananas. As she peeled them she threw the fruit here and there and fed the peels to Shyama. Again and again Hari praised their flavor and joyfully accepted the offering. A short while later Vidura came home singing Hari's virtues. Seeing the scene, he cried, "Ah! You have fed Shyama banana peels!" Vidura snatched the banana from her hand and sent his wife inside. Regaining bodily awareness, ashamed and alarmed, she dressed and returned. Vidura lovingly peeled bananas and fed them to Hari. Shyama said, "These do not possess that lovely, delightful taste."

Crushing the warriors' pride, Partha advanced toward Jayadratha, swiftly breaking the Kuru army's arrogance in the dreadful battlefield. Seeing the horses wounded and exhausted, he descended from the chariot. Standing alone, he suddenly held back all the fierce heroic kings. Striking the earth with a missile, he manifested a lake filled with water and fashioned from arrows a splendid and renowned shelter for the horses. Bhagavan, cherisher of devotees, personally began their treatment and care. The horses became unwounded, encouraged and once again filled with their former strength.
[881] Boon-Bestowing Shri Krishna on Kurukshetra's Battlefield

Unborn and imperishable, Lord of all worlds, Lord of Maya, independent Bhagavan, He appeared through His own divine play in a radiant form of consciousness and bliss. Performing lovely divine play in Vraja, He gave devotees pure rasa. Then He reached Dvaravati and fashioned countless wondrous arrangements of divine play. Abandoning pride, He became Partha's charioteer on Kurukshetra's battlefield. His boon-bestowing hand grants imperishable fearlessness to those who seek refuge.

व्याध विनवत दोऊ कर जोरे। "मोतें देव! दयानिधि! भारी दोष भयो भोरे॥ मैं जान्यौ ठाढ़ौ मृग मगमें, ताते तेहि मार्यो। बेध्यो पाद-पदुम प्रभु केरौ, क्रूर कुमति हार्यो॥ दीजै दंड पतित पापी कौं, सकुच न करि सपने।" प्रभु कह - "तेरौ दोष नहीं कछु, हौं प्रेरक अपने॥"

[882] Satyabhama Gives Shri Krishna to Narada
(Raga Jauna - Tintala)
Shyama thought of Narada, and the great sage arrived at once. After worshiping him according to rule, they placed a fragrant garland upon his lovely neck. Knowing her husband's command, Satya served food according to his taste. Together with a thousand cows and a mountain of gold and gems, she gave Krishna in charity. The sage laughed and said, "Hari, You are now under my authority. Obey my command." Joyfully and humbly, Krishna accepted. The sage then fixed a tawny cow with calf as the redemption price. He released Hari and afterward received from Him his desired boon.
[883] The Hunter's Humble Plea
(Raga Vihaga - Tintala)
The hunter pleaded with folded hands: "O God, treasury of compassion, in ignorance I have committed a grave fault. I thought a deer stood upon the path and therefore shot it. Instead I pierced the Lord's lotus foot; this cruel fool is ruined. Punish this fallen sinner; do not hesitate even for a moment." The Lord said, "You bear no fault at all. I Myself inspired the act."
[884] Enchanting Meditation on Bhagavan Shri Shiva

Shri Mahesha's bodily radiance is beautiful like the color of champaka flowers. He has one noble face adorned by three eyes, and a smile plays upon it. Jewels and golden ornaments adorn Him, and a jasmine garland beautifies His neck. His enchanting crown of precious gems spreads brilliant light.

Various ornaments shine upon His conch-shaped neck and chest, their bright radiance increasing the assembly's joy. Shiva's beautiful mighty arms extend to His knees and are eternally adorned with lovely bracelets, armlets and other ornaments. Fire-refined, perfectly pure, exceedingly fine, incomparable and wondrously enchanting, priceless pure garments and upper garments adorn Shri Shiva's body. Sandalwood, aloes, lovely vermilion and musk adorn every limb. Mirrorlike gems decorate His ears and His collyrium-dark eyes shine. His divine radiance veils every other light. His utterly enchanting form displays the beauty of perfect youth. Bhava is eternally lovely, adorned in every ornament upon every limb, the graceful beloved of the mountain's daughter, crown jewel of faithful wives. His ever peaceful, unagitated lotus face is lovelier than millions of moons. The beauty of His lovely body surpasses millions of Cupids. To those who meditate upon Shri Shiva in this way with undivided attention, Ashutosha Shankara Bhagavan grants His own nature.

Eternal being, consciousness and bliss, Sadashiva is pure, gentle and lovely, the moon upon His brow. Garlands of serpents, jewels, gems and flowers adorn His neck; His tawny matted locks are incomparable. Three-eyed and adorned with tripundra, a serpent at His waist, He destroys Cupid's pride. Clad in bearskin and absorbed in meditation, Sharva shines beneath a forest tree.

Motionless, simple, exalted and divinely formed, lord of serpents with tawny topknot, blue-throated, gaze fixed upon His nose tip, pearl and serpent garlands upon His neck, lotus hands resting in His lap, a brilliant light, breath, body and mind perfectly still, Shiva, lord of Yoga, being-consciousness-bliss, shines upon a tiger-skin seat.

Fair as camphor, radiant and heart-enchanting, serpent ornaments beautify every limb and tiger skin His waist. His hands bear rosary, drum, trident, skull-staff and severed head. Tripundra, crescent moon and splendid matted locks shine upon His brow and head. Upon a pure lion-skin seat on a sixteen-petaled lotus sits three-eyed, five-faced Shankara, the Supreme Lord.

In the snowy mountain, covered with snow and shaped like snow, changeless Shankara rests. Absorbed in His own stainless white form, beyond the three gunas yet assuming many forms, crowned with matted locks, adorned with serpents, the celestial river flowing from His head, Hara lies hidden in snow, graciously accepting the hospitality of the Himalaya.

Unmoving, stainless, unborn, sinless, Lord of moving and unmoving beings, bearer of the Ajagava bow, Hara; formless yet all-formed, subduer of the wicked, pacifier of death's fear, bearer of the moon; imperishable and steadfast, stainless-bodied yet bodiless, lord of hosts and bearer of the great serpent; remover of worldly fear and sin, giver of fearlessness: worship Hara-Hara, destroyer of becoming.

Kali became Gauri by casting off her dark skin. From that skin appeared Kaushiki, abode of divine power, courage and strength. Goddess Gauri immediately came to Shiva. Supreme delight spread and Shiva's heart overflowed with joy. With His own hands Shiva placed pure adornments upon Gauri. The lord of Bhava now applies the forehead ornament upon Her brow.

Shri Shankara descends from the snowy mountain. Fair-bodied and radiant beside Gauri, He is adorned with ornaments and noble serpents. Five-faced with fifteen auspicious eyes, crowned by matted locks, He bears moon and celestial river. His four beautiful arms bear axe, trident and gestures of knowledge and boon. Bearskin covers His waist; serpent, rosary and another serpent adorn His neck, and a skull garland His chest. Majestic Gauri, adorned with ornaments, pearls and gems, extends a boon-bestowing hand. Mounted upon the splendid white bull, dharma itself assumes a pure boon-bestowing form.
[896] Rudra's Third Eye Opens

The terrible third eye opens and fierce raudra-rasa awakes. It burns the cruel and wicked, pouring down fire of dissolution. Then with a cool stream of luminous nectar it removes everyone's affliction. Auspicious dharma is established and the whole world's sins disappear.

Lovely Nataraja dances while the drum sounds in His hand. Matted locks crown His head and serpents form His ornaments. He is Ashutosha, Sadashiva, Bhava, Rudra and dissolver of the worlds, lord of gods, Mahadeva, remover of the entire universe's sorrow. Sacred ash shines upon every limb of the lord of beings. Enemy of Kama yet Kama's own form, He grants every fulfillment of desire.

Victory to the snow-limbed resident of the snowy mountain, abode of bliss beside the mountain's daughter! He drank Kalakuta poison; blue-throated Hara-Hara is the sacred Om. The vast crescent moon marks His crown; intricate matted locks cover His head. Proud Ganga's waves remove affliction; tripundra marks His brow and a skull garland His neck. Victory to Tripurari, father of elephant-faced Ganesha, destroyer of obstacles and worldly fear! All-powerful, eternally absorbed in samadhi, devoted to Yoga and detached from Maya. Agamas, Vedas and every path were exhausted; at last they grasped Your feet, Shiva. Remembering Shiva destroys bodily pain; remembering Shiva drives worldly terror away. Remembering Shiva burns limitless floods of sin at once like Kama's bow. Remembering Shiva destroys debt and disease and makes strength and wisdom blossom. Remembering Shiva draws prosperity and perfection near and turns enemies into friends. Physical, divine and material afflictions cannot touch one even in dreams when Shiva is remembered. Bilva leaves, unbroken rice, streams of milk, incense and datura are very dear to You. Nandi and the hosts shine before Shiva; touching his feet drives every sorrow away. Trident in hand and mounted upon Nandi, Tripurari, You save the three worlds. You destroy the flame of sin and suffering, having made Your throat terrible with Kalakuta. Primal Shakti Bhavani is half Your body; repeating Her name brings the world a mine of happiness. Saying "Hara-Hara" removes every pain; saying "Shambhu" brings bodily happiness. Saying "Shankara" brings every blessing; saying "Rudra" removes many fears. Among gods You are complete in every way, Ashutosha, splendid and generous. Your adoration is easy and Your worship most accessible; no god equals Mahadeva. Whoever meditates with mind, action and speech immediately receives the desired fruit. The world knows that bathing, meditation and Your abhisheka bestow every fruit. Whatever fear or worldly obstruction fate has created, remembering Shambhu removes every grief. The pauper gains treasure, the yogi perfection and the healed person prosperity. Make Shambhu's name your rudder and the boat will cross worldly existence's ocean. Hear my humble plea, Shiva: make my understanding stainless and attachment to the world slight. Cut down the vast army of troubles; sever debt's head and wear it as a garland. Pierce sin and suffering with Your trident; pour out every perfection, roots of auspiciousness. Burn the world's net and heaps of distress to ash in an instant and make me a treasury of happiness.

Your body is brilliantly fair as camphor; excellent tawny matted locks crown Your head. 10. Tripundra marks Your brow, You wear a skull garland, and a rudraksha garland beautifies Your neck. 11. Assuming the three bodies of Brahma, Hari and Rudra, You create, sustain and dissolve. 12. You are the eternal ocean of compassion, Ashutosha, revealer of bliss. 13. Exceedingly merciful, innocent treasury, You bring auspiciousness to moving and unmoving creation. 14. Lord of Sati-Parvati's life, father of Skanda and Ganesha, Shiva brings happiness. 15. Hari and Hara are one in nature and virtues, enacting the play of master and servant. 16. Each worships and causes the other to be worshiped, teaching everyone the method of worship. 17. As Maruti, Hara served Hari; as Rameshvara, Hara received Hari's service. 18. Drinking dreadful Halahala for the world's welfare, Sadashiva became noble Nilakantha. 19. Pure boon-giver to gods and demons, auspicious Lord, destroyer of demons and dissolver of worlds. 20. Repeating the five-syllable mantra "Namah Shivaya" removes every terrible affliction. 21. Shiva works the supreme good of women and men who eternally repeat "Shiva, Shiva." 22. Shri Krishna performed severe austerity, and pleased Purari granted Him a boon. 23. Disguised as a hunter He fought Arjuna, then joyfully gave him the Pashupata weapon. 24. He removed every devotee's distress and delivered all by granting His devotion. 25. He slew Shankhachuda and Jalandhara and, taking countless daityas' lives, carried them across. 26. He gave Andhaka a place among His hosts and expelled Shukra through the path of semen. 27. He gave Shukra the Sanjivani knowledge and granted Banasura the destiny of a leader of His hosts. 28. He is the eightfold form, five-faced consciousness, and the twelve luminous Jyotirlingas. 29. His form pervades the fourteen worlds, unspeakable, inconceivable, limitless and incomparable. 30. Seeing a creature die in Kashi, He grants liberation and removes grief. 31. Honoring devotee Bhagiratha's wish, He held Ganga in His matted locks, as the gods witnessed. 32. Ruru, Agastya, wise Upamanyu, Sage Dadhichi and other illumined seers 33. spread Shiva's mysteries and knowledge, deliver the world and are supremely dear to Shiva. 34. You are supremely generous, an ocean of compassion, who removes helplessness, poverty, sorrow and fear. (36) Worship of You brings the highest good; brahmana and shudra alike are entitled to it. (38) Free from all distinction, You are Lord of everyone, the natural friend who follows and protects His servants. (39) Whoever comes into Your refuge has every sin and affliction destroyed at once. The good Vedas proclaim Him the beginning, beginningless, infinite, indivisible, nondual and untouched by sorrow. Yogis, ascetics and sages cannot grasp in meditation Mahesha's unseen, sense-transcending form. Agamas, Vedas, Puranas and histories forever sing His virtues. Blessed indeed is every man and woman who daily meditates on Samba Sadashiva. (1)
For the play of creation, preservation and dissolution, He assumes the forms of Brahma, Hari and Hara. Though one alone, He creates divine play by fashioning countless wondrous and beautiful forms. Having beautifully created and preserved the world, He then becomes Time and consumes it. Blessed indeed is every man and woman who daily meditates on Samba Sadashiva. (2)

बिनसि दोष दुख दुरित दैन्य दारिद्र्य नित्य सुख-सांति मिलावें। आसुतोष हर पाप-ताप सब निरमल बुद्धि-चित्त बकसावें॥ असरन-सरन काटि भव-बंधन भव निज भवन भव्य बुलवावें। बड़भागी नर-नारि सोई जो सांब-सदासिव कौं नित ध्यावें॥ ७॥
औढरदानि, उदार अपार जु नैकु-सी सेवा तें ढुरि जावें। दमन असांति, समन सब संकट, विरद बिचार जनहि अपनावें॥ ऐसे कृपालु कृपामय देव के क्यों न सरन अबहीं चलि जावें। बड़भागी नर-नारि सोई जो सांब-सदासिव कौं नित ध्यावें॥ ८॥

Beyond qualities, desireless, free from affliction, unborn and changeless, He abides in His own natural form. Adorned with supremely lovely garments and ornaments, He assumes a form that captivates the sages. A young moon shines upon His graceful brow and a jeweled necklace ripples across His chest. Blessed indeed is every man and woman who daily meditates on Samba Sadashiva. (3)
He smears His limbs with cremation-ground ash and winds venomous serpents around them. He holds a human skull, wears a garland of severed heads around His neck and covers His body with bearskin. The fierce sky-clad Lord has three eyes, and all tremble at His fearsome appearance. Blessed indeed is every man and woman who daily meditates on Samba Sadashiva. (4)
The moment He hears a helpless person's piteous cry, the treasury of compassion runs to rescue them. Reaching them without delay, He strikes dreadful Death at its very heart and drives it away. Even now the wise sing and recount the pure story of sage Mrikandu's son. Blessed indeed is every man and woman who daily meditates on Samba Sadashiva. (5)
Whoever offers four grains of rice, datura flowers, bilva leaves and water, and loudly raises the cry "Hara Hara Mahadeva" with ringing voice, Sadashiva grants that person the highest fruit, so worldly enjoyment and liberation are easily attained. Blessed indeed is every man and woman who daily meditates on Samba Sadashiva. (6)
Fault, sorrow, sin, helplessness and poverty perish, and eternal happiness and peace are gained. Ashutosha removes every sin and torment and bestows a stainless mind and understanding. Refuge of the refuge-less, He cuts the bonds of becoming and splendidly summons the soul to His own abode. Blessed indeed is every man and woman who daily meditates on Samba Sadashiva. (7)
The open-handed giver, boundlessly generous, melts even at the slightest service. He suppresses unrest, calms every crisis and, true to His celebrated nature, accepts the devotee as His own. Why not take refuge this very moment in such a gracious, compassion-filled God? Blessed indeed is every man and woman who daily meditates on Samba Sadashiva. (8)

Filled with auspiciousness, He brings every blessing. Tender toward those who take refuge, He removes fear. In His gentle form He sports within people's hearts; Hari uproots the very tree of sin.

Hara, Hara, Hara Mahadeva! True, eternal and beautiful Shiva, Lord of all, changeless, imperishable, unborn and indwelling ruler. (1)
Beginning, infinite, free from affliction, partless yet bearing every art; stainless, formless, imperceptible, unwavering destroyer of sin. (2)
You are Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshvara, bearing the three divine forms. You are creator, sustainer, supporter and destroyer. (3)
Protector, consumer and inspirer, beloved open-handed giver; witness, supreme non-doer, doer and source of self-awareness. (4)
Dwelling in jeweled mansions, the great enjoyer full of passion; ever roaming the cremation ground, yogi and renunciant. (5)
Bark and skull, poison in His throat, garland of heads and serpents; His body bears funeral ash, He has three eyes, and Mahakali is His dwelling. (6)
Well served by ghosts and spirits, tawny-matted-haired, the unclad Rudra assumes a formidable form and brings dissolution. (7)
White, gentle, bearer of the Ganga and moon, giver of happiness, exceedingly lovely, peace-giving Shiva who captivates sages' minds. (8)
Beyond qualities yet bearing qualities, stainless, pervading the world, eternal Lord; Hara, the Absolute in the form of Time, all-pervading and beyond Time. (9)
Being, consciousness and bliss, filled with rasa, compassionate Ordainer; treasury of love's nectar, dearest Beloved, savior of the entire universe. (10)

Single-tusked, moon upon His brow, elephant-faced, destroyer of obstacles and forest of auspicious qualities, son of Shiva, worshiped by four-faced Brahma, destroyer of sorrow and giver of happiness.
Lord of Riddhi and Siddhi, supremely capable, giver of stainless understanding, Himself perfectly pure-minded, fire consuming the forest of sin, stainless and of incomprehensible course, giver of knowledge, humility and prosperity.
Tawny-eyed, bearing a mighty trunk, smoke-hued, pure, holding thunderbolt and goad, Lambodara, remover of obstacles and calamities, worshiped by the gods and worthy in every way.

At evening, white-hued and mounted upon a bull, She assumes Shiva's form. Her radiance equals millions of suns and She bears four arms.
Five-faced and ten-handed, Her pure eyes overflow with rasa. Her color shines like crystal and She is the abode of tender compassion.
Supreme remover of sin, savior from becoming and giver of happiness; Brahmani, Rudrani and auspiciously marked Rama.
Remove all sin, sorrow, misfortune and corrupt understanding. O stainless Mother, fill my heart with perfectly pure devotion.
[927] Arati to Shrimad Bhagavata

Arati to the supremely sacred Purana, the treasury of Dharma, devotion and realized knowledge.
The stainless Bhagavata Mahapurana, the fruit of the wish-fulfilling Vedic tree, melted from Shuka's mouth, filled with the nectar-rasa of supreme bliss, treasury of the rasas of divine play and love.
It churns away Kali's impurity and removes the three torments. It destroys the fear of becoming, filled with birth and death. Continual service to it brings every happiness; the singing of Hari's deeds is the supreme medicine.
It destroys delusion born of sensual indulgence, and unfolds stainless detachment and discrimination. It reveals the secret truth of Bhagavan, the supreme light of knowledge of the Supreme Self. (1)

Arati to the Purana that purifies the world, the wondrous treasury of the Divine Mother's deeds.
The Devi Bhagavata is exceedingly beautiful, bringing happiness to paramahamsas and sages. Its sun of stainless knowledge dispels delusion's darkness; it is a canopy of supreme sweetness and beauty. (1)
It removes the fierce poison of Kali's impurity and at once unfolds the blessed opportunity for righteous enjoyment. It spreads the nectar of supreme bliss, the great medicine that destroys ignorance. (2)
It continually gives every auspicious blessing, granting right understanding, the true goal and liberation. It eternally bestows ever-new divine glory, the supreme radiance of knowledge of ultimate Reality. (3)
It breaks distress, unrest, confusion and fear, and crushes sin, torment, Maya and pride. It delights the pure lotus minds of its servants, the honey-filled treasury of divine-play rasa. (4)

Arati to revered Mother Cow, remover of distress, upon whom the whole world should meditate. (Refrain)
She grants prosperity, rightful desire and true Dharma, and gives the unwavering, stainless state of liberation. She ordains good fortune for gods and humans, beloved and worshipful cow of Nanda.
Mother who sustains the entire universe, giver of sweet nectar-like milk and nourishment, savior from disease, grief and calamity, the sturdy boat for crossing the ocean of becoming.
She increases life, vitality and health, and destroys sorrow, helplessness and poverty. She reveals beauty, happiness and prosperity, and gives stainless discrimination and wisdom.
Whether one serves her or causes her pain, Mother gives the same nectar of milk to drink. She brings happiness to enemy and friend alike, conqueror of the world through her loving nature.
