[534]

(Rāga Māṇḍa - Tāla Kaharavā)

[535]

(Rāga Bhairavī - Tāla Kaharavā)

[536]

(Tune of Lāvanī - Tāla Kaharavā)

Sri Krishna's Outpourings of Love

[534]

(Raga Manda - Tala Kaharava)

By displaying My qualities and form, I forcibly draw the minds of sages. Yet Radhika came and effortlessly drew away this mind of Mine. We two are eternally one, both of a single nature, but the glory of Radha's all-pervading love is boundless and incomparable.

[535]

(Raga Bhairavi - Tala Kaharava)

Without Radha I remain forever unadorned, merely bare Krishna. Adorned by Radha's company, I become Sri Krishna. Without Radha I remain inactive, motionless and without power. Radha's company makes Me active and moving, filled with limitless power. Radha is My supreme self, My life and breath, My eternal foundation. Receiving love from Radha, I extend it among My own people. I am Radha and Radha is Me; Radha and Madhava are eternally nondifferent. Forever one, We become two filled with rasa and perform varied, beautiful lila.

[536]

(Tune of Lavani - Tala Kaharava)

I am complete bliss and supremely pure; I am eternal existence, consciousness and bliss. I am made of rasa, the king of rasa, forever filled with rasa and the joy of rasika hearts. Receiving a single spray from Me, the ocean of bliss, the whole universe forever receives boundless happiness in countless ways. Only one whose pure bliss is hundreds upon hundreds of times greater than Mine can bestow supreme bliss upon My mind. Radhika alone is such a one, and She gives Me delight. Forever unsatisfied, I continually taste Her sweetness.

[537]

(Rāga Bhīmapalāsī - Tāla Kaharavā)

[538]

(Tune of Lāvanī - Tāla Kaharavā)

Continuation of [536]

My form crushes the pride of millions upon millions of Cupids. It eternally enchants and nourishes the entire world in incomparable ways. Yet I drink the nectar of Radha's beauty, the beauty of beauty itself, and never become satisfied; My life remains restless to behold Her. The waves of sound from My flute draw the three worlds, but the sweetness of the nectar of Radha's words continually steals My mind. The sweet fragrance of My body perfumes the whole universe, yet the fragrance of Radha's limbs forever carries My mind away by force. From the beginning of creation, My rasa has filled the moving and unmoving world with savor, but the nectar-rasa of Radha's lips keeps Me forever under Her control. Although My touch is as cooling as millions of autumn moons, the happiness of touching Radha's limbs immediately extinguishes the fire in My own heart. Every creature in the world experiences happiness by receiving a particle of My joy, yet Radha's form and virtues forever preserve My life.

[537]

(Raga Bhimapalasi - Tala Kaharava)

Filling My "rasa" and the very "life of My rasa" with Her own "rasa," She made it flavorful, filled it with sweetness, and made the Complete more perfectly complete. A thirst for "rasa" arose within "rasa" and increases forever. The desireless Lord of conscious bliss eternally desires this "special happiness."

[538]

(Tune of Lavani - Tala Kaharava)

I cannot repay Her, nor can I ever discharge My debt. Bound by the bonds of love, I never feel Myself independent. Though naturally independent, I remain happily dependent by My own making. I never wish to escape and never wish to become free. My sweet subjection to love rules even over My sovereignty. Moment by moment it fills Me, who am rasa embodied, with sweet, ever-new rasa.

[539]

(Rāga Pīlū - Tīna Tāla)

Continuation of [538]

Forgetting all authority and divinity, I become an ocean of rasa. Filled by ever-new rivers of rasa, I become saturated with rasa. This form of Mine, greedy for rasa, eternally intoxicated by rasa and always filled with rasa, is forever distinct from the complete Brahman of existence, consciousness and bliss, supremely incomparable. Therefore perfected sages, paramahamsas, yogis, realized knowers and self-satisfied souls remain ceaselessly engaged in the attempt to know it. Yet they can never fathom the depth of this ocean. Admitting defeat, all those supremely perfected souls return to the surface. Only those who bind My form of rasa with the bond of stainless love can behold this extraordinary form as wise rasikas. They immerse themselves in it and drink honeyed rasa. They alone then give Me the sweet gift of rasa for which I long.

[539]

(Raga Pilu - Tina Tala)

Syama forever says from His own mouth, "I am the conscious supreme reality. Formerly I was filled with knowledge, yet I could not perceive the Beloved's greatness. Now My mind remains helplessly fastened to Radha. Seeing Radha, thief of My heart, I remain forever overwhelmed with love. Day and night I lie within the fathomless treasury of Radha's love. With its varied waves, My delighted body forever dances sweetly. My mind always remains greedy to obtain Radha's love, rare, faultless and supremely pure, like stainless gold. The glory of tasting Radha's love is boundless and immeasurable. Its expanse of happiness is millions of times greater than My own joy."

[540]

(Raga Bhairavi - Tala Kaharava)

Without end, beginningless and eternal, We two are one everlasting form. Forever becoming two, We perform lila that is naturally infinite, inconceivable and incomparable. Eternally ancient and ever-new, We are always of one rasa, one and nondifferent, yet an unbroken current of rasa-lila filled with difference forever flows. There is natural, blissful meeting and forever-fierce separation that continually burns the heart. There are eternally sweet and gentle enchanting smiles, compassionate weeping, sighing and lamentation. This crying of Mine is beginningless, and these bliss-filled burdens of sorrow are infinite. Nonmeeting within meeting and meeting within nonmeeting are eternally the utterly inconceivable essence of sweet happiness.

[541]

(Raga Bhimapalasi - Tala Kaharava)

Whether far or near, We remain eternally together without obstruction. An infinite ocean surges, filled with fathomless nectar of love-rasa. Small and great waves of many kinds continually rise upon its surface. Seeing them, people mentally imagine nearness and distance. We two are eternally of one form and one reality, forever united. Our eternal meeting remains unbroken, whether the lila appears as separation or union. There is eternal meeting, eternal tasting of rasa, eternal dissatisfaction and ever-new longing. Meeting is filled with separation and separation with meeting; the wondrous ocean of lila cannot be fathomed. Joy and sorrow, gentle laughter and weeping, utter despair and immense enthusiasm form the supremely sweet, divine and pure current of the sweetness of lila-rasa.

[542]

(Raga Bhairavi - Tala Kaharava)

How and to whom can I tell the ineffable story of My heart? My Queen Radha is eternally contained within Me. That mine of rasa forever gives rise to ever-new, beautiful lilas, and outside too I encounter only Her honeyed, flavorful, joy-giving touch.

(Rāga Bhairavī - Tāla Kaharavā)

[543]

(Raga Jaunapuri Todi - Tina Tala)

My mind is caught upon Radha's beauty. It cannot attain Her, yet cannot withdraw, and so remains forever suspended there. At the very first sight My eyes became fulfilled, and the mind never wandered elsewhere again. Since then an ocean of joy has surged as I swallowed the nectar-rasa of Her form. My mind sways intensely in longing to serve the generous tender shoots of Her feet. Without receiving their pollen, the bee of My mind never moves away.

[544]

(Raga Vagesri - Tala Kaharava)

Even sweeter and dearer to Me than Radha is the name "Radha." The instant the word "Radha" enters My ears, every bud of My heart blossoms. My eternal fixed price is "Radha's name overflowing with love." Anyone may purchase Me simply by making Me hear Radha's name in that way. Narayana, Siva, Brahma, Lakshmi, Durga and Sarasvati are forms of Mine. All are as dear as life, and each has a wonderful relation within Me. But Radha is dearer than My life, supremely beloved and the crown of all My dear ones. Nowhere is there another as dear to Me as Radha, more precious than life. All these other gods and goddesses eternally dwell near Me, but beloved Radhika forever resides upon My breast.

[545]

(Raga Bhairavi - Tala Kaharava)

May Radha's name forever shine upon the tip of My tongue. May Radhika's exquisite form remain eternally before My eyes. May the delightful account of Radha's glory forever resound within My ears. May My mind remain ceaselessly absorbed in contemplating Sri Sri Radha's countless virtues.

(Rāga Jaṅgalā - Tāla Kaharavā)

[547]

(Rāga Kāliṅgaṛā - Tāla Kaharavā)

'मैं प्रियतम, तू प्रेयसि मेरी' - यों कहना है निरा प्रवाद। 'तू मम प्राण, प्राण मैं तेरे' - यह भी है प्रलाप-संवाद॥ 'तू मेरी, मैं तेरा' - राधे! यह भी नहीं साधु व्यवहार। समुचित नहीं कभी हममें - 'तू-मैं' का कोई भेद-विचार॥

[548]

(Tune of Lāvanī - Tāla Kaharavā)

[546]

(Raga Jangala - Tala Kaharava)

Believe it or do not believe it; I have no desire to persuade you. Place complete faith in Me if you wish, or regard Me as careless. Whatever pure substance called "love" I possessed, I have given entirely to you. I am telling you the truth.

[547]

(Raga Kalingara - Tala Kaharava)

To say, "I am the beloved and you are My lover," is merely a popular tale. To say, "You are My life and I am your life," is also only the speech of delirium. "You are Mine and I am yours," Radhe, is likewise not proper language. No thought of a distinction between "you" and "I" is ever fitting between Us.

[548]

(Tune of Lavani - Tala Kaharava)

Beloved, behold Our incomparable nature, utterly distinct from everything. We two, beginningless, eternally sport and shine in ever-new ways and ever-new forms. In truth We are neither lover and beloved, nor wedded and unwedded lovers. We are not even nature and spirit, though forever absorbed in pure and beautiful play. We are neither formless nor formed, neither without attributes nor possessed of distinction. We two are neither qualified nor unqualified, neither the whole nor a dependent part. We are neither maya and Brahman nor made of maya, neither manifest nor unmanifest. We are love at its fullest, rasikas of love-rasa, made of rasa and attached to rasa. Our sweet, infinite and boundless form unfolds ever-new. Desireless longing forever increases, and Our play is eternally fresh. Our two-armed forms possess exceedingly graceful beauty, incomparable and indescribable. They are embodiments of love, pure nectar of form and eternally enchanting beauty. Love is Our self, love Our understanding and mind, and all Our senses are filled with love. Without gross, subtle or causal bodies, even Our eternal bodies are conscious love.

Continuation of [548]

Every lila is made of love-rasa and ever-new bliss of love. Its course is eternally unobstructed, immeasurable and freely assumes ever-new movements. Gods and sages could not understand it and abandoned their efforts in defeat. Its wondrous play is eternally inconceivable, infinite and indescribable.

[549]

(Raga Bhimapalasi - Tala Kaharava)

Forever beautiful and sweet, I attract even the minds of sages. I eternally shower nectar upon seers, sages, humans, demons and gods. Yet I remain forever drawn to drink the nectar of the moon of Your face. I continually yearn and thirst, Myself breaking the boundaries of revealed scripture. Brahma, Siva, Sarasvati and Sesa never tire of singing My countless virtues, yet I am the one who earnestly and especially sings Your virtues as they deserve. No one anywhere has yet discovered an end to My glory, yet I experience Your glory as unknowable and infinite. I am the great Lord of every realm, of incomparable sovereignty, sustainer and bearer of the world, yet absorbed in serving Your feet I experience happiness and honor. When I see those supremely pure waves of feeling, desired even by the eternal form of existence, consciousness and bliss, surging before Me, every limb thrills. Beloved, I am swept into them and no separate reality remains. Who can describe the incomparable nature and greatness of Your mystery?

[550]

(Raga Malakaunsa - Tina Tala)

Radhike, You are the root of My life, the incomparable, immortal, life-restoring elixir, without an equal anywhere. Just as all the limbs adorn the body, each in its own place, yet without life all are useless and no beauty remains anywhere, so, Beloved, You alone are the foundation of everyone's happiness. Without You there is no rasa of life, through which all become dear.

Continuation of [550]

All lives are animated by Your life, and all minds receive mind from Yours. Taking a droplet from Your ocean of love, I bestow rasa upon everyone. Through the merit of Your treasury of rasa, beggars receive a pinch. You alone are equal to Yourself; never consider Yourself lacking in the slightest. Even the highest beloved remains restrained by decorum, awe, fear, humility and reserve. Nowhere and never is there another fearless sovereign of rasa like You. Your ownership is eternally infinite and Your authority complete in every way. Supremely generous, You distribute Your rasa through expansions of Your own body. By Your sweet, mysterious and enchanting maya, I eternally become the instrument for tasting the submissive and contrary moods of rasa.

[551]

(Raga Bhairavi - Tina Tala)

O worshipful Radha, My mind dwells eternally in You. Only to behold You do I reside in Gokula. To know the reality of Your rasa and taste it, I wander day and night playing the flute. For that same purpose I go to bathe and sit upon the Yamuna's bank. My heart remains restless to behold the sweetness of Your form. For that purpose I remain beneath the kadamba tree and forever meditate only upon You. Like a cataka bird I continually thirst to drink the Svati rain of Your beauty. The sweetness of Your form, character and virtues eternally steals My heart. I forever sing Your song of love and remain always absorbed within it.

[552]

(Raga Paraja - Tina Tala)

O daughter of King Vrsabhanu, O incomparable treasury of the nectar of love-rasa! I wander from forest to forest herding cows; what can I understand of love's ordinance? I roam with cowherd boys and always play rustic games. What kinship could there be between You, a river of love's nectar, and Me, heated dust?

O loving sovereign, when You grant a vision filled with love, I receive immense happiness, and My immeasurable debt to You increases. How can I repay that debt when I am eternally impoverished of love's wealth? Be merciful and forever bless Me by giving the gift of love.

(Raga Bhairavi, tune - Tina Tala)

O most beloved Radhike, Your glory is incomparable, ineffable and infinite. Age after age I sing it without cease, yet nowhere find its end. Your priceless sweet speech rains the bliss of nectar within My heart. I have sold Myself forever for the price of Your sweet lotus eyes and curving brows. Within My flute I continually repeat Your incomparable sweet name. With eternally unsatisfied eyes I behold Your supremely delightful form. Nowhere else have I found such pure love, and nowhere else was My heart's hope fulfilled. I found You alone, and You fulfilled every longing. Within Me, eternally fulfilled and eternally desireless, are sweet dissatisfaction and the sweetest desire. This is the magical, honeyed result of Your divine love.

[554]

(Raga Jujhari - Tala Kaharava)

Radhe, O most beloved, image of My life, root of My existence! Sweet Beloved, I cannot forget You even for a moment. With every breath, the eternally pure current of Your remembrance flows. Every hair, thrilled with joy, remains engaged in embracing You. My eyes forever see You, and these ears hear Your sweet words. The nose inhales the fragrance of Your limbs, and the tongue drinks nectar-rasa from Your lips. Every limb eternally receives the pure touch of Your beloved limbs. Ever-new love-rasa increases, and ever-new joy arises within the heart.

(Raga Sivaranjani - Tina Tala)

My body and mind belong wholly to You; You alone are forever My sovereign. They can never be enjoyed by or enjoy another; this is a true and steadfast vow. Though My gross body does not remain physically near You, My subtle body cannot remain apart for even a moment and becomes intensely restless. It remains always joined only to You and therefore dwells at the border of Your feet. You alone are certainly the single life of its life. No one else has ever had the slightest right over it. It will give pleasure to no one, nor receive pleasure from anyone in any way. If it ever appears to give or receive even a little love from someone, that is only a pure extension of Your own rasa. You may say anything to Me, for I am eternally under Your rule. But never misunderstand, and never call Yourself poor or subordinate. Even so, I can never act fully according to Your heart, and therefore continually remain the giver of sorrow to You. Look toward Your own goodness and forget all My offenses. Keep blessing Me with the dust of Your holy lotus feet.

[556]

(Raga Vagesri - Tina Tala)

Radhe, You alone delight My heart; You alone are My consciousness. You alone are eternally My self, while I am only Your self. My life comes from Your life, and My breath from Your breath. You are mind, understanding, eyes, ears, skin, tongue and the power of smell. You are every gross and subtle object of the senses, each a form of My happiness. You are Me and I am You; the relationship of Yours and Mine is incomparable. Without You I do not exist, and without Me You do not retain existence. This extraordinary, inseparable relationship alone is the reality of life.

Radha, You alone are like Yourself; nowhere is there another comparison. An immense ocean of nectar-rasa surges without shore or limit. I remain forever submerged within it and never rise to the surface. Only by Your desire do I sometimes move among its waves. Yet even those waves sing only of Your lovely greatness. All their beauty and sweetness belong to You alone. Even then I move only within their forms, which are shaped entirely like You. Only to make You happy do I sometimes naturally rise above them. You are My sole sovereign and shower immense compassion. Keeping Me always near, You fill every moment of life with rasa. Beholding My virtues with countless eyes, You forever praise them. You continually increase incomparable joy and fill the heart with limitless delight. Always and forever I am eternally Yours; no other can ever exercise even the slightest right over this eternally exclusive servant. However You make Me dance, so shall I dance forever. This is My dharma, My natural disposition and My one spontaneous act.

I am forever Yours alone; hold this firm faith, Beloved. I have no craving of any kind and no desire whatever. I do not care in the slightest about any condition whatsoever.

Continuation of [558]

If I ever appear to dwell anywhere apart from You, even at that moment My eternal dwelling truly remains within You. My mind never longs for anyone's form, virtues, character or greatness. Apart from You alone, everything appears to Me unreal and absent. Therefore nowhere and never do My true love and pure feeling arise elsewhere. Meeting, social exchange, speaking and listening are all merely outward actions. Even within them only Your pure greatness expands, so that the entire world may come and bow before Your lotus feet. Thus all may understand pure love free from craving for sense objects and know the holy greatness of affection composed of complete renunciation. Even this is secondary, merely a spontaneous unfolding of lila. Within You alone, and only through You, all relations of whole and part exist. Within You there is never, anywhere, even the slightest trace of craving. Yours is the distinctive, supremely pure mood free of desire for Your own happiness, finding joy only in My joy. I forever taste this sweetest, purest and supreme rasa. I am never satisfied, and ever-new longing continually increases.

There is no transaction with anyone and no worldly business with another. Never is there a polluted desire for sensory pleasure, that abode of degradation. There is no purpose for action, no instruction in the principles of knowledge, no regulated practice of devotion and no special eight-limbed yoga. Liberation has no place, and there is not the slightest fear of bondage. Everything has been absorbed into the ocean of love; nothing remains. At its profound depth that ocean of love stays peaceful, motionless and immeasurable, yet immeasurable surges rise freely within it forever. Countless abundant waves in many forms rise upon its surface, but even those youthful waves do not disturb its peace. Steady, peaceful, unagitated and profound, that nectar-filled ocean of love forever overflows, eternally waves and remains absorbed in a boundless dance. Peaceful yet filled with ever-new dancing, that supremely sweet treasury of rasa surges infinitely and eternally within the pure region of Our hearts. Its varied waves alone unfold ever-new lilas. It is Our life, and within it rests every relation of whole and part. Who can define it when gods, sages and paramahamsas are powerless? Its movement, devoid of enjoyer and enjoyed, is utterly wondrous; speaking and hearing are futile.

Beloved, Your great and infinite glory lies beyond mind and speech. Even if sung through a hundred thousand divine lifetimes, its end could not be reached. Divine beauty of form, feeling and virtue, great divine and honeyed sweetness, You are complete, infinite and naturally pure, the boundless treasury of them all. Yet You perceive not the slightest beauty, virtue, feeling or greatness within Yourself. This is the purest humility, the natural essence of love's holiness. Supremely generous, You bestow immeasurable happiness upon Me eternally and without cease. The current of nectar-rasa forever flows, never pausing even for a moment. You naturally surrendered everything: mind, understanding, divine self and all possessions. You retained only remembrance of Me and made My happiness Your sole property. You continually give jewels of divine happiness, ever-new and of ever-new kinds, yet Your divine treasury of jewels does not diminish in the slightest. You neither see nor know that this ceaseless giving occurs. Day and night You regard Yourself as poor, unworthy of the gift and without substance. From You I receive extraordinary happiness and ever-new moods of rasa. My debt increases, yet My desire to receive ever-new joy from You also grows. Principal and interest both continually increase; thus the boundless debt grows forever. Beloved foundation of My life, I shall remain eternally indebted to You.

You remain forever united within Me, and I eternally dwell joined within You. For love's sake We become two and remain mutually absorbed in lila. Without two, the distribution and tasting of lila-rasa could not occur. Therefore We eternally remain as two, indisputably absorbed in lila.

I remain eternally and intensely restless to meet You, yet I never tell anyone what lies within My heart. Receiving Your honeyed touch, My "I" disappears. You alone remain with Your own glory. Giving everything of Yourself, You blend Me into You. At that instant We become one and awareness of separation vanishes. Incomparable, indescribable, inconceivable and infinite love pervades all. Who has met whom, and whose beloved and lover are whose? From You I receive incomparable rasa in sweet, ever-new colors. Dearest, I remain forever dwelling beside You. I do not move away even for a moment but reside there eternally. In every condition and at every time, as a pure treasury of bliss, I personally taste the rasa of love's bliss without obstruction.

Beholding Me again and again, You become delighted and give honeyed rasa. You alone are My supremely pure treasury of happiness. I have sold Myself into Your hands for the price of these feelings, yet still could not repay My debt. How could the immeasurable be weighed?

(Doha)

Beloved, Your form is eternally inseparable, a limb of My heart. Forever joined to the heart, it brings nectar and rasa with it. It is supremely sweet and enchanting, yet never inert matter. It is a compact mass of consciousness and bliss, possessing extraordinary auspiciousness. Eternally nondifferent yet forever distinct, You bring a company of friends, Your own bodily expansions, and play with Me together with them. There is ever-new eternal meeting and ever-new circulation of lila-rasa. Generous happiness and beauty continually increase in extraordinary new ways. When all the friends are hidden away and the treasury of exquisite rasa is opened, We drink and give each other limitless rasa without any material transformation. Ever-new supreme happiness arises within My treasury of joy. Longing for happiness grows eternally, ever-new and without limit. I am eternally unsatisfied and eternally fulfilled, desireless yet forever desiring. Within condensed happiness arises longing for happiness, O abode of ineffable love.

[569]

(Raga Saranga - Tina Tala)

Radhe, why am I delighted by You, and why am I attached to You? Today I reveal something of the secret of why I am forever Your devotee. The incomparable beauty within You is pure, sweet, wondrous and boundless. I have seen nothing like it anywhere, ever-increasing and eternally tender. Even the beauty of Your body is utterly distinct and supremely incomparable, but I can perceive that the beauty of Your mind is still higher and supreme.

Continuation of [569]

Your holy mind has become a boundless ocean of pure love. Nothing is mixed within it, and nowhere is there the slightest corruption. There is no impure possessiveness or ego, no delusion, attachment or aversion, not the least pride anywhere, nor any trace of desire for Your own happiness. Renouncing everything, You offered Yourself entirely for My happiness. Nothing anywhere can compare with that natural and stainless act, beyond every category. Emptying the realm of Your heart of enjoyment and liberation in the moving and unmoving world, You filled the pure heart only with Me, eternally and without cease. This beauty of Your mind appears eternally through every limb, continually enchants Me and reveals ever-new colors.

[570]

(Raga Paraja - original Tala)

I have no duty and nothing anywhere remains for Me to attain. Yet in truth I am drawn without limit by the splendor of Your form. I am indeed the self of everyone, and all direct their love toward Me, but filled with ego, they all seek the preservation and gain of that ego. You possess incomparable beauty and virtues and are full of peerless, pure rasa, yet remain free of ego and forever regard Yourself as lowly. Moreover, You do not know the reality of Your own pure being. Without pride, You eternally forget Your incomparable greatness. Therefore Your true and holy form becomes more radiant at every moment, and this ever-new attraction draws Me moment by moment. My mind continually yearns to drink this rasa, supremely pure, joy-giving, beautiful, sweet beyond sweetness, divine and great. Therefore I remain forever enticed to taste this rasa. You are the self of My self, My one goal and means. Day and night I dwell within the temple of Your mind, in Your presence. Therefore I cannot find peace for even a blink apart from You.

The delightful separation of Yours and Mine has never occurred and never will, yet the desire to meet continually increases. Beloved, what enchantment is this? The experience of eternal meeting remains present, yet sometimes separation appears. Nonmeeting appears within eternal meeting, and union appears within nonmeeting. Sweet waiting joined with remembrance remains, and its force continually increases. Impatience grows more and more, and the mind's momentum intensifies. The heart remains forever absorbed in this supreme happiness of meeting and separation. This pure current flows ceaselessly and eternally toward infinity.

[574]

(Raga Bhairava - Tala Tritala)

What sweet meter gives supreme bliss to Me, the form of bliss? What makes the eternally blossomed One blossom anew? What naturally awakens boundless dissatisfaction within Me, eternally fulfilled? For what does My changeless, desireless mind remain forever restless? I am rasa embodied, yet become impatient to taste its rasa. My unsatisfied eyes behold it forever and stream with tears. Radhe, You alone are that sweetest, lovely form of Mine. No one else could fulfill even the smallest part of You. You are not merchandise in a marketplace and no transaction of exchange. You are the sweet, surging, infinite ocean of pure love-rasa.

[575]

(Raga Paraja - original Tala)

Beloved, Your sweet and enchanting remembrance never pauses. The exquisite sweetness of Your form remains forever united with Me. To make Me Your own, You performed an extraordinary renunciation. In waking, dream, deep sleep and the fourth state, You kept Your love fixed only upon Me.

Continuation of [575]

Even when offered, You accepted none of the world's happiness, splendor or good fortune. You maintained incomparable detachment even toward divine realms and absolute liberation. Then within that extraordinary pure detachment You retained no attachment even to detachment. You disregarded it too and placed pure, honeyed love solely in Me. Within Your mind there is neither attachment to enjoyment nor attachment to renunciation. Renouncing enjoyment and then renouncing all renunciation, You placed exclusive love in Me alone. I have become Your pure servant and truly remain Your debtor. Most beloved, You dwell eternally within and without Me. Though made of rasa, I remain deeply enticed to taste Your supremely flavorful, stainless rasa, abandoning propriety and breaking every boundary of revealed scripture. Beloved, for You I naturally remain both desirous and desireless, naturally greedy for Your rasa and delightfully absorbed in it. That stainless sweet rasa, in which even the pure desire for enjoyment or liberation leaves no remainder, draws Me with special force. Supremely blessed are You and the gopis who are expansions of Your form, within whom an ocean filled with this very rasa eternally surges in exclusive love.

[576]

(Raga Bhairavi - Tala Kaharava)

You alone are the visible embodiment of the current of rasa within Me. Why speak of remembrance when You are the rasa of life and life's goal? Where words cannot reach and no picture can be drawn, You are that very place within Me, the wondrous object of eternal experience. How could anyone tell another what this state is like? Within the honeyed ocean of rasa-lila, divine rasa dance occurs day and night. Look within Yourself: nowhere and never does another existence appear. This is the picture of the lila of Our divine eternal life.

Seeing Her charming radiance and slender form, bliss spread everywhere. Intoxicated and captivated, He gazed without blinking, utterly unsatisfied and beyond duality. An ocean of blissful nectar surged within His heart, and cooling streams of rasa flowed from His eyes. Beholding that incomparable beauty, Madhava smiled gently and spoke nectarous words, the essence of happiness: "Beloved, this divine and incomparable unfolding of lila through Your body and mind awakens desire even within Me, whose nature is naturally desireless. Though I am supreme bliss embodied, beholding it gives Me immense delight. Therefore I continually hide and freely gaze upon You. Supremely perfected masters of yoga, sages who know Brahman and all the purest saints cannot touch even Your shadow or discover the limit of Your feeling. They continually yearn and proclaim, 'Blessed, blessed are the feelings of the gopis.' They eternally seek particles of dust from their feet and intensely desire service. Therefore they incarnate in Vraja as animals, birds and trees. Receiving particles of the gopis' foot-dust upon their heads, they become blessed."

[583]

(Raga Bhimapalasi - Tala Kaharava)

Daughter of Vrsabhanu, how can I open My heart and show it to You? How can I describe the unspoken nature of its feelings? When I see You tormented by separation and Your mind anguished even for a moment, a terrible ocean of pain surges within My heart, abandoning every restraint. How dreadful is that anguish and how deeply that pain pierces the core! I cannot describe it, even if I wished to cast aside reserve and speak. Yet together with it, extraordinary meeting continually takes place, and from that union an unbroken, wondrous, honeyed spring of rasa flows. Immersing Myself and drinking from that profoundly deep, stainless stream of nectar, My life receives incomparable, faultless happiness and becomes endlessly cool.

Beloved, I experience that Our nondifferent union remains eternal. Radhe, You are never separated from Me even for a moment. We two remain forever united like the sun and its rays. You and I, divinity and Bhagavan, can never be divided. Even so, awareness of meeting and separation continually arises. This is the great divine river of love's nectar, its graceful waves a festival of lila. Or these are the two beautiful and holy banks of love's river: separation and pure meeting with the Beloved, increasing rasa and enchanting loving hearts. When burned by separation You display anger toward Me, I begin to see countless faults within Myself. Then I wonder, "Sovereign of My life, after careful thought, why do You not abandon Me? Why do You endure such mistreatment?" At once I enter the supremely pure temple of Your heart. Seeing the scene within, every sorrow vanishes and I am immediately blessed. A new grove is adorned with beautiful blooming rows of fragrant flowers, a sweet and enchanting mass of beauty, filled with every instrument of rasa. There I see that the outward anger rests upon sweet rasa and love, without any conception of faults, eternally and naturally beholding endless virtues. A soft bed of flowers is spread, and You embrace Me there, Beloved. Body and mind smile without obstruction, absorbed in tasting supreme joy. There is not the slightest conception of pain, never any separation or severance, no memory of the world or its enjoyments, no possessiveness, pride or delusion toward objects. Thus within and without, Your company remains forever. All Our limbs continually touch one another auspiciously. If I ever give anyone besides You some place within My mind, it is only to drink more and more of Your stainless rasa. You know every small and great matter within My heart, because as its sovereign You dwell there day and night.

Praise or criticize Me, reject or supremely honor Me: each brings ever-new tasting of rasa and eternally fresh expansion of sweet lila.

(Raga Jangala - Tala Kaharava)

When You say, "O deceiver, magician, merciless king of rogues!" and say, "After stealing my heart, are You not ashamed to make me weep like this? I could not understand You and was deceived by Your sweetest enchanting dress. Your heart is hard as diamond, without the slightest trace of compassion. I become intensely restless and overwhelmed and find no peace even for a blink. My sorrowful eyes pour continually like the rains of Sravana and Bhadra. You have forgotten me and do not summon me or even speak of coming. I may burn without cease in the flame of separation day and night. Deceiver, why should even the slightest desire for me arise in You now? Immersed in an ocean of happiness, why would You care for me? If this is what You intended, why did You join me to You in love? I feel like reducing this sinful body abandoned by You to ashes." These forms of address taste exceedingly sweet, and My heart wishes to hear them forever. But together with them I see Your moon-face darkened and despondent. Although I eternally dwell only within Your holy body and mind and cannot leave for even a moment to go near anyone else, when the submarine fire born of separation flares within the nectar-ocean of Your heart, the powerful fire of separation immediately ignites within My joined heart too. Beloved, hearing these fierce outpourings filled with sorrow, pain at the core grows terrible and an ocean of grief surges. It seems I have endured the torment of separation for a very long age, as though a dreadful curse of utter severance has fallen upon Me. How much pain lies within and how fierce is the burning of the heart! I cannot describe it, even after a hundred attempts.

[585]

(Tune of Lavani - Tala Kaharava)

What shall I say to You and what leave unsaid? No thought arises within the mind. Most of the time, day and night, I remain only beside You. Whether the body is distant or near has no importance. Within eternal meeting, complete and blissful eternal existence forever remains. When You experience it, You too will see that this is perfectly true. Every false conception of nonmeeting, filled with delusion, will disappear. Abandon doubt and establish firm resolve and the strongest faith within the mind. You will behold the truth: I remain eternally near. Where separation never occurs, forgetfulness cannot even be imagined, for sweet, enchanting and pure union remains forever and always.

(Ghazal tune - Tala Dadara)

I am not distant from You even for a moment. I am eternally absorbed and completely filled within You. You forever remain united only with Me. The blossoming bud remains eternally adorned and open. The treasury of nectar-rasa is immeasurable and fully satisfied, yet the act of tasting remains forever unsatisfied.

[587]

(Raga Jangala - Tala Kaharava)

You forever gave Me happiness, while I tormented You. You gave stainless love, and I rejected it. Through the service of Your pure laughter, You made Me laugh. I immediately scorned You and made You weep without cease. Surrendering everything, You adorned Me in every way. I cruelly showered arrows of words upon You. You always endured it and still endure, abandoning pride and illusion, while I continually please My mind by giving You sorrow. Even after all this, You always kept Me as Your own. I am not worthy even to touch the shadow of Your feet. You alone are like Yourself, and I alone am shameless like Me. I remain forever flavored by Your pure, honeyed rasa.

(Doha)

Never look upon My countless faults. Abandon anger and remain forever established in Your own glory. Give Me one sweet drop of the nectar-rasa of Your love, so that this heart of Mine, now an ocean of poison, may become nectar-filled. What did I intend to say, and what have I said on seeing You deeply distressed? These are all different waves of the ocean of love. Remain forever and infinitely submerged in this ocean of rasa. Destroy every adversity and bring fear and weariness to an end.

This daily habit of Mine cannot possibly be abandoned. Forget Me if You wish to find happiness anywhere. I am filled with faults and bear no comparison with You. Nowhere is there a young woman like You in form, virtue and sweetness. You are the divine image of love and the pure embodiment of renunciation, the honeyed fulfillment of this life filled with deficiency. Through Your own incomparable virtue, You regard Me as virtuous. Filled with love, virtue and sweetness, You imagine Me the same. Your virtues are utterly pure, yet in truth Your delusion is immense. By mistake You regard Me as eternally pure and loving. I am devoid of stainless love, pure form and noble virtue. No sweetness exists within Me; I am lowly and filled with corruption. From the standpoint of qualification, I am eternally unworthy, yet You never deprive Me of Your sweet love. I am the servant of this one-sided love of Yours. Therefore I remain beside Your pair of feet. I want You to abandon Me now and simply become happy. Seeing You happy would then give Me supreme happiness. But I do not think You could leave Me, and because You alone sustain My life, that too would bring Me profound sorrow.

[589]

(Raga Desa - Tina Tala)

Most beloved, I am eternally indebted to You. A droplet from Your ocean of love-rasa is My sole support. Your nectar of love is supremely pure and continually gives Me life, removing moment by moment every flame within body, mind and senses.

I am wholly unfit for Your utterly stainless love. You are the crown of generosity and, looking only toward Yourself, grant union. You are exclusive, while I wander from house to house and My love is impure. Even so, You are My worshipful beloved and continually purify Me. Your love is forever stainless and eternally the root of supreme happiness. You are always devoted to forgiveness, while I continually make mistakes. Never look in My direction; maintain only Your eternal compassion. See Me continually within Your holy lotus feet.

[590]

(Raga Sohani - Tala Dadara)

Never allow even the slightest sorrow or despondency within Your mind. Do not mistakenly fill it with the delusion that I am ever separate from You. We two are eternally one, were never two, and becoming two is impossible, whatever destruction or arising may occur anywhere in material nature. There is eternal union of the self and eternal experience of blissful touch. Within the heart, a honeyed festival of meeting proceeds without cease. There is ever-new rasa, ever-new attachment and eternally fresh stainless happiness. Union is eternal and free from separation; not even a blink or smallest instant of severance exists. This feeling-filled meeting is imperishable, unobstructed and eternally fearless, sweetest, supremely divine, nectarous, holy and made of supreme bliss-rasa. The body of five material elements has no importance within it. The holy, radiant and stainless reality of feeling forever pervades it. It is not bound by the laws of nature and exists beyond place and time. This principle of feeling, made of pure conscious nectar, transcends all. Supremely rare yet exceedingly accessible, the purest light of feeling has been received. It does not permit even the slightest darkness of sinful doubt to enter.

Dearer than life, most beloved, I continually remember You. I can never forget Your moon-face even for a moment. My mind remains eternally submerged in the treasury of Your love's nectar. My heart continually longs to hear Your honeyed voice. Your eyes overflowing with love remain eternally before Me. Standing forever near, You speak every matter within Your heart to Your complete satisfaction. You embrace Me, give happiness and meet Me with Your arms around My neck. You remain forever pressed against My heart and never move even a grain's breadth. Sometimes You sing sweet music; sometimes You laugh and make Me laugh. Sometimes You roll Your eyes, move Your brows and penetrate My heart. Overcome by affection, You sometimes make delightful, rasa-filled and piercing jokes. Sometimes You weep and make Me weep; sometimes You ensnare Me and become caught in Your own snare. Sometimes intensely restless, humble and pitiable, You fall at My feet. Sometimes You adopt wondrous gestures and quarrel with harsh words. Sometimes You give supreme contentment and remove every anguish of the mind. Sometimes, hands joined, You make exceedingly compassionate and sweet entreaties. Sometimes You assume a sweet, innocent and utterly enchanting appearance. Sometimes simple-hearted, You speak very plain and guileless words. Sometimes You become clever and highly intelligent and engage in elaborate debate. Sometimes You display mastery of the arts, and sometimes fill all with the highest knowledge. Sometimes You become exceedingly timid and naturally fear the slightest sound. Sometimes fearless and supremely courageous, You dispel the most terrible fear. Sometimes You steal the flute and hide away with the lovely peacock crown. Sometimes You assume a disguise, bewilder Me and throw everything into confusion. Sometimes, pressing heart to heart, You give honeyed rasa. Sometimes You drink, and sometimes make Me drink, the supremely delightful nectar-rasa of the lips.

How can sun and moon remain without radiance and light, Radhike? Without being and divinity, Bhagavan is lifeless, Radhike. Just as touch remains there, Syama's life depends upon Radhika, O Radhike.

[593]

(Tune of Lavani - Tala Kaharava)

Radhe, from the moment that sweet and beloved union with You was broken, terrible anguish pervaded Me and the illness of the mind increased. I found no peace even for an instant, and nothing else gave pleasure. The mind would not remain anywhere else even for the smallest moment. Beloved, My consciousness became completely filled with dear remembrance of You. Every hair suddenly blossomed and all anguish went away. Your sweet, beloved form immediately came and pressed against every limb. Not a grain's breadth remained separate, and supremely new, incomparable colors of rasa increased. Sometimes great restlessness arose when awareness of nonmeeting returned. At once You appeared within memory and bestowed Your delightful touch. Since then there is sometimes meeting within separation and sometimes the enjoyment of union. The beloved experience remains outwardly present, while within there is eternal union of rasa.

You are the life of My life, and You alone are My supremely desirable treasure. At every moment I experience that You are never far away. You remain forever united, filling every atom and particle. Wherever I may be, not the slightest separation from You can occur. Stretched everywhere, this stainless, eternal and flavorful union remains forever.

[595]

(Raga Jangala - Tala Kaharava)

Radha, I remain eternally impatient and eager to behold You. No one can know this pain at the deepest level of My heart. That pain makes Me intensely anguished and freely restless, while remembrance beyond all limit gives rise to immeasurable bliss. At every moment that bliss creates ever-new pain. Pain then increases remembrance, which again fills the mind with new bliss. Thus an ocean of the sorrow of nonmeeting and happiness of remembrance forever surges. Beloved, I naturally remain continually sinking and rising within it. From time to time the desire to meet increases and assumes a fierce form. Then the honey of the sweetness of Your form arises and removes every sorrow of the mind.

(Raga Bhairavi - Tala Kaharava)

Beloved, the pain of separation from You torments Me severely. The anguish increases moment by moment until all ordinary awareness disappears. In sleep and waking, Your sweet remembrance remains at every time. Understanding, consciousness and every sense remain forever saturated with You. Even so, My mind is continually restless to behold You. My eyes remain agitated, and the body continually longs to touch You. Sweetest beloved, when will You make Me happy by giving the nectar of Your lips? This life thirsts through all eight watches, and not a moment's peace remains. My mind now flees from peacock crown, flute, butter and honey. Without You, every happiness in Nanda's house tastes bitter. Vamsivata, the bank of the Kalindi and the autumn night all appear dreadful. The restless mind stays nowhere and finds no place at all. When will You abandon pride and press Me against Your heart? When will You grant the holy dust of Your feet and fill happiness with rasa? Dear Queen Radha, show mercy now to this insignificant servant. Make Me happy by letting Me hear Your nectar-sweet words filled with rasa.

[597]

(Doha)

Moon-faced Sri Radhike, root of My life, the thorn of severe separation from You has pierced My heart. The pain is utterly unbearable and cannot be concealed, yet speech too is impossible; I have become completely helpless. If through the ripening of former merit I might find a secluded forest and a travelerless path that remains empty for a long age, then the stream of tears born from the grief of separation could flow, mixed with roaring sobs, until the entire world were flooded.

Radhike, You are water and I am the fish. How can this lowly life remain even for a moment without You? How can fire live without the power to burn? How can sun and moon remain deprived of radiance and light? Without power and divinity, Bhagavan is lifeless. Thus this rasa-filled life of Syama depends upon Radhika.

[599]

(Tune of Lavani - Tala Kaharava)

Your remembrance eternally assumes visible form and rides sweetly upon consciousness. It gives boundless sorrow and happiness alike, an indescribable treasury of exquisite rasa. Your sweet mood of surrender, Your restraint, character and natural disposition, and the complete absence of otherness forever give rise to ever-new longing. At once they make Me bodiless and fill the eyes with holy affection. They forever rain happiness and keep mind and body eternally filled with rasa.

(Raga Bhairava - Tala Kaharava)

I dwell in the city of Dvaraka and rule everyone. All remain forever obedient and continually observe My command. Beautiful, splendid royal palaces filled with abundant varieties of majesty shine with thousands of jeweled women and give immense delight. Each stainless woman surpasses the other in auspicious virtues and beauty, adorned with humility, free of pride and engaged in serving with body and mind. Without weariness I conduct every affair of state, forever alert to friend and enemy. I protect the policy of the kingdom, always vigilant and united with dharma. I perform all these and countless other highly responsible duties, yet cannot forget the exquisite moon of Your face even for a moment.

Even in the realm of dreams, beloved, I am forever in Your company. There are many visions, meetings and pastimes, and ever-new colors of rasa increase. The current of the sweet river of Your beauty flows eternally without obstruction. At every moment the sweetness of Your form increases, and at every moment new longings arise in the mind. Whether You remain far away or near, Our union of rasa remains firm, unmoving, incomparable and known through direct experience; separation never occurs. Your dear and infinitely sweet image dances forever, beloved. At every moment new delight arises, and at every moment there is a special savoring of rasa. This supremely holy, divine bond of love is not confined to the body. Neither birth and death nor this world and the next can ever obstruct it. Ever unbroken, eternally increasing and filled with boundless sweet love-rasa, it remains an unlimited expanse of pure, conscious nectar.

You may perhaps think that I do not remember You, but what severe sorrow continually overshadows My mind! To whom can I describe the state of My mind, beloved? To whom can I appeal? To whom can I relate the dreadful, flaming tale of My heart's burning? My heart burns in the fire of separation, and My eyes languish to behold You. I long to meet You at once, breaking every bridge of restraint. How can I see You this very moment? Each instant passes like an age. All patience is leaving Me; not a trace of fortitude remains in My heart. I live far away in the city of Dvaraka, surrounded by countless people. There are many strange and captivating objects and pleasures considered delightful by the world. My mind finds rest nowhere; it remains submerged in remembrance of You. Every pleasure and enjoyment appears as supreme sorrow, and My mind has grown weary of them. Even so, Your beautiful, flavorful union with Me remains eternal. Not even in a dream does separation from You occur for a single moment.

Radhe, crown jewel among the jewels of Vraja's women, delighting in My happiness, treasury of sweet rasa, ever-new and ever-increasing, pure, radiant embodiment of mahabhava! At every moment and every step You naturally and continually arrange My happiness. You retain not the slightest awareness of Your own excellence and glory, nor any pride whatsoever. Your state, movement, mood, thought, gesture and indication, and every limb and part of Your body are varied and wondrous sweet waves of an ocean of love, eternally filled with rasa. Your golden lotus-face becomes supremely radiant and ever-new upon receiving the sunbeam of My gaze, while Your bright heart remains free of desire for personal happiness. You are the life of My life, the mind of My mind and forever the sanctified life of My life. Our inseparable mood, being and every action naturally become one. You remain forever united within Me, and I remain eternally joined within You. For the sake of love We become two and remain mutually absorbed in the pastime. Without the two of Us, the distribution and savoring of this pastime-rasa could not occur. Therefore We become two and remain engaged in unrestricted, undisputed play.

I am the ruler of all and Lord of all, beyond every quality yet the abode of every virtue. I pervade all beings, shelter all, transcend all and am the resting place of all. I am the root of everything, eternally complete and satisfied, with every desire fulfilled and forever without desire. Eternally without personal endeavor and wholly filled with happiness, I abide in My own glory and delight in the Self. Nothing is lacking anywhere; I never have desire or concern. No happiness elates Me, and no sorrow makes Me sigh or cry out.

My life is forever filled with Radha, and I am forever the form of Radha's life. This complete oneness of Radha and Me is divine, pure and incomparable. Radha is mad with love for My sake, and I am mad with love for Radha's sake. Yet We unquestionably experience one another's mind. We experience the moods in one another's hearts as lover and beloved. Our mutual eagerness to give one another ever-new happiness grows eternally and without interruption.

O gopis, all My beloveds, I am eternally indebted to you. The debt grows ever new at every moment, and the time for its decrease never comes. It could diminish only if I were able to give you some special happiness. Yet to accomplish your special happiness, I increase My own happiness. The more My new happiness increases through you at every moment, the more My ever-new debt to you continues to increase. In this way, whatever means I adopt to repay your debt instead increases it; no means exists by which the debt can be paid. You surrender body, mind, wealth and life solely to accomplish My happiness. Abandoning dharma, this world, the next world, relatives and family, you worship Me. I can never become free of this debt, nor do I wish to be free. Receiving ever-new opportunities for service, may I cherish ever-new enthusiasm within My heart. May I never repay your supremely sweet and enchanting debt. May I remain bound by the cord of your love, forgetting all lordly mystic power. May I play eternally with you and arrange ever-new rasa dances. Becoming supremely happy through your rasa, may I make your happiness flavorful.
