सिलसिलाति अति प्रिया सीस ते लटकति बेनी नाल।

मल्ली माल पिया की उरझी पिय तुलसी की माल।
जनु सुरसरि रवि-तनया मिलि के सोभित ललित मराल॥

English translation
The graceful Lady and Her graceful Beloved swing.
All the sakhīs gently sway Them while singing songs filled with nectar.
The ends of Their yellow and blue garments flutter with restless motion.
It is as though, overflowing into one another, the forms cherished in meditation have become manifest at that moment.
Priyā's long braid slips down from Her head and hangs freely.
Mistaking the peacock feather in Her Beloved's crown, the serpent-like braid becomes distraught and terrified.
Priyā's jasmine garland entangles with Her Beloved's garland of tulasī.
It is as though the celestial Gaṅgā has met the Sun's daughter Yamunā, adorned by a lovely line of swans.
Dark and fair, each reflects the other, creating vast and immaculate beauty.
Beholding the Princess and Prince, says Gadādhara, the mind falls into a sweet snare of rasa.

निकुञ्जकी हरी-हरी दूबको देखकर ऐसा प्रतीत होता है मानो हरे मखमलका गद्दा बिछाया हुआ है। उसीपर बहुत बड़ा अत्यन्त हरा-भरा कदम्बका पेड़ है। उसकी एक मोटी डाल उत्तरकी ओर फैली हुई है। उसीमें झूला बँधा हुआ है। झूलेको फूलोंसे इस प्रकार सजा दिया गया है कि केवल फूल-ही-फूल दिखायी पड़ रहे हैं।
English translation
The bower's fresh green dūrvā grass resembles a cushion of green velvet. Upon it stands an immense and luxuriant kadamba tree, with one thick branch extending northward. A swing hangs from that branch, so completely adorned with flowers that nothing but blossoms can be seen.

जिस डोरीके सहारे झूला कदम्बसे लटक रहा है, उस डोरीके चारों ओर श्वेत कमल गूँथ दिये जानेसे ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा है मानो कमलके फूलोंकी डोरीसे झूला लटकाया हुआ है। झूला हंसके आकारका है। उसे भी कमलसे इस प्रकार सजा दिया गया है मानो कमलके फूलोंका एक हंस है और वह कमलके फूलोंकी दो डारियोंपर अपना पंख फैलाकर झूल रहा है।
English translation
White lotuses are woven around the cords suspending the swing from the kadamba, making it appear to hang from ropes composed entirely of lotus blossoms. The swing is shaped like a swan and covered with lotuses, as though a swan made of those flowers had spread its wings between two flowering branches and begun to sway.

उसी कमलके फूलोंवाले हंसकी पीठपर, झूलेके बीचमें, एक हाथ ऊँचा, एक हाथ चौड़ा एवं दो हाथ लम्बा उजले कमलके फूलोंका एक आसन है तथा उसमें सहारा देनेके लिये दोनों ओर हत्थे लगे हुए हैं। पीछे पीठकी ओर भी सहारा देनेके लिये करीब छः अँगुल चौड़ा एवं दो हाथ लम्बा एक डण्डा लगा है। यह भी उजले कमलके फूलोंसे भली प्रकार गुँथा हुआ है। उसे जहाँसे भी देखा जाये, केवल खिले हुए कमलके फूल ही दिखायी देते हैं।
English translation
Upon the back of this lotus swan, in the middle of the swing, rests a seat of white lotuses one cubit high, one cubit wide, and two cubits long, with a supporting armrest on either side. Behind it is a back support about six fingers wide and two cubits long, likewise densely woven with white lotuses. Viewed from any direction, only fully opened lotus flowers are visible.

उसीपर दक्षिणकी ओर श्रीकृष्ण एवं उत्तरकी ओर श्रीराधारानी बैठी हैं। राधारानीका दाहिना हाथ श्रीकृष्णके कन्धेपर है एवं बायाँ हाथ आसनके हत्थेपर। श्रीकृष्ण दोनों हाथोंसे वंशी बजा रहे हैं। सखियोंका एक बहुत बड़ा झुण्ड पूर्वकी ओर तथा एक पश्चिमकी ओर खड़ा है। सखियाँ आनन्दमें डूबी हुई हैं तथा अत्यन्त मधुर स्वरमें गाती हुई झूलेको धीरे-धीरे पूर्वसे पश्चिमकी ओरकी गतिसे झुला रही हैं।
English translation
Śrī Kṛṣṇa sits upon its southern side and Śrī Rādhārānī upon its northern side. Her right hand rests upon His shoulder and Her left upon the armrest. Kṛṣṇa plays the flute with both hands. A great company of sakhīs stands to the east and another to the west. Immersed in bliss and singing in exceedingly sweet voices, they gently swing the Couple east and west.

झूला झूलता हुआ जब पूर्वकी ओर आता है तो पूर्वकी ओरकी सखियाँ उसे स्पर्श करके थोड़ा पश्चिमकी ओर ठेल देती हैं तथा जब पश्चिमकी ओर आता है, तब पश्चिमकी ओरकी सखियाँ उसे स्पर्श करके पूर्वकी ओर ठेल देती हैं। पश्चिमकी ओरकी सखियोंको ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा है कि झूलेका मुँह पश्चिमी ओर है तथा राधारानी एवं श्रीकृष्ण पश्चिमकी ओर मुँह किये हुए बैठे हैं। पूर्वकी ओरकी सखियोंको ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा है कि श्रीराधा एवं श्रीकृष्ण पूर्वकी ओर मुँह किये बैठे हैं।
English translation
When the swing comes eastward, the eastern sakhīs touch it and push it gently westward. When it comes westward, the western sakhīs touch it and send it back east. Those in the west experience the swing as facing west, with Rādhārānī and Śrī Kṛṣṇa seated facing them. Those in the east experience Śrī Rādhā and Śrī Kṛṣṇa as facing east toward them.

झूलेकी गति तो पूर्व-पश्चिमकी है, पर उस समय जो पवन बह रहा है, उसकी गति उत्तरसे दक्षिणकी ओर होनेसे झूलेके पासकी वायुकी गति अनिरूपित हो गयी है। उसी वायुके झकोरेसे श्रीकृष्णके कन्धेपर जो पीताम्बरकी चादर है, उसका एक छोर फर-फर करता हुआ उड़ रहा है एवं श्रीप्रियाका नीला अञ्चल भी फर-फर करता हुआ उड़ रहा है। श्रीकृष्णके दोनों हाथ वंशीके छिद्रपर लगे रहनेके कारण चादर निर्बाध उड़ रही है। प्रिया बार-बार अपने अञ्चलको बायें हाथसे सँभालती हैं; पर उनके सँभालनेपर भी वह फिर उड़ जाता है।
English translation
The swing moves east and west, while the wind blows from north to south, making the air around it swirl in irregular currents. A gust sends one end of the yellow shawl upon Śrī Kṛṣṇa's shoulder fluttering, while Śrī Priyā's blue veil flutters with it. Since both His hands remain upon the flute's holes, His shawl flies unhindered. Priyā repeatedly steadies Her veil with Her left hand, yet it rises again each time.

जब सखियाँ झूलेको बहुत झटकेसे ठेलने लगती हैं, उस समय पीताम्बर एवं नीला अञ्चल, दोनों अत्यधिक फरफराने लगते हैं तथा उस समय ऐसा प्रतीत होता है मानो छबियाँ पीताम्बर एवं नीलाम्बर (नील अञ्चल) के रूपमें प्रकट होकर श्रीकृष्ण एवं श्रीराधाके साथ झूला झूल रही हों। श्यामसुन्दरकी घुँघराली अलकावली वायुके झकोरोंसे हिल रही है।
English translation
When the sakhīs begin to push the swing forcefully, the yellow shawl and blue veil stream with great vigor. They seem like embodied forms of golden and blue radiance manifesting in those garments and swinging beside Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Śrī Rādhā. Śyāmasundara's curling locks tremble in the gusts.

इसी समय वायुके वेगके कारण श्रीप्रियाके सिरसे अञ्चल खिसककर गोदपर आ जाता है। श्रीप्रिया चाहती हैं कि अञ्चलको यथास्थान कर दूँ; पर झूलेका वेग बढ़ जानेके कारण वे गिरनेके भयसे श्यामसुन्दरके बायें कन्धेको दोनों हाथोंसे पकड़ लेती हैं। झूलेकी गतिके साथ अब प्रियाजीकी वेणी भी स्पष्ट रूपसे झूलती हुई दीख रही है।
English translation
The force of the wind now slips Śrī Priyā's veil from Her head into Her lap. She wishes to restore it, but as the swing gathers speed She fears falling and clasps Śyāmasundara's left shoulder with both hands. Her braid can now be seen clearly swaying with the motion of the swing.

उस चञ्चल वेणीको देखकर ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा है मानो काली नागिन श्रीप्रियाकी पीठपर वहीं पासमें श्यामसुन्दरके मोर-मुकुटको देखकर भ्रम हो रहा हो और वह उसके डरसे व्याकुल होकर श्रीप्रियाकी पीठपर रेंग रही हो। श्यामसुन्दरके मुकुटका मोर-पंख भी वायुमें फर-फर कर रहा है। श्रीप्रियाके द्वारा बायाँ कन्धा पकड़ लिये जानेसे वे बायीं ओर कुछ झुकसे गये हैं।
English translation
That restless braid resembles a black serpent crawling across Śrī Priyā's back, bewildered upon seeing Śyāmasundara's peacock crown close by and distraught with fear of the bird it mistakes for a great peacock. The crown's peacock feather too flutters in the wind. Because Śrī Priyā clings to His left shoulder, Śyāmasundara leans slightly toward Her.

श्रीश्यामसुन्दरके गलेमें तुलसीकी एवं श्रीप्रियाके गलेमें चमेलीके फूलोंकी माला है। इस बार वायुके झोंकेसे उड़कर ये दोनों, तुलसी एवं चमेलीके फूलोंकी, मालाएँ आपसमें उलझ गयी हैं। अब झूलेकी गति और भी तीव्र हो गयी है। इसी समय उन उलझी हुई मालाओंपर श्रीप्रियाके गलेकी मोती-माला आकर उलझ जाती है। इन तीन मालाओंके उलझ जानेसे ऐसी शोभा हो रही है मानो चमेली-फूलकी मालारूपी गङ्गाजीमें तुलसी-मालारूपी यमुनाजी आकर मिली हों तथा मोतीकी माला मानो हंसोंकी पंक्ति हो।
English translation
A garland of tulasī hangs around Śyāmasundara's neck and a jasmine garland around Śrī Priyā's. A gust now intertwines the two. As the swing moves still faster, Priyā's pearl necklace becomes entangled with them. The union of the three is beautiful beyond measure, as though the Yamunā in the form of the tulasī garland had met the Gaṅgā in the form of the jasmine garland, while the pearl necklace formed a row of swans upon their confluence.

Thus, with every sweep of the swing, the vision of fair Śrī Rādhā and dark Śyāmasundara becomes eternally new at each moment.
