खांश गुजर सों गुजरान करो, मत इश्क की खातर करो। दुख होयगा सुख जायगा, टुक समझि के जिय में डरो॥ १ ॥ जब तीर चश्मों के लगे तब परक फरक परो। बेदरद दिल मासूकदा, फिर स्वाद नहीं रो रो मरो॥ २ ॥ पल पल रुआई कहर आतश, कुरबान आशिक भी जरो। फिर फूँक मारे जहर की, मन में हर की घड़ियाँ धरो॥ ३ ॥ शिर साहिबी खूबी सभी दिलदार के पायन धरो। कृपानिवासी रामयारी सही रखवारी जो मरी॥ ४ ॥ २८ ॥
Fresh English translation
Live on whatever bare subsistence will carry you through; do not treat love as a matter of profit. Pain will come and comfort will go—understand a little and let the heart tremble. When the arrows of those eyes strike, every distinction falls away. The Beloved's heart is merciless; no flavor remains—weep and die. At every moment comes weeping, wrath, and fire; let the lover burn as an offering. Then love blows again upon the poison: keep every hour of the Lord within your heart. Lay headship, mastery, beauty, and every excellence at the Beloved's feet. Says Kripanivasa: friendship with Rama is true protection, even unto death.
