Fresh English translation

Attachment burned incense and let me smell love; in its company I went mad. A wave rose and showed me something in a dream—the heart's beloved drew me into an embrace. Yet that embrace is deception and utter pain; understanding is made to whirl like water. Amid poison and wrath it exacts its wages, while also knowing mercy and grace. Know that the mind has drunk from the Beloved's hand and been enticed by a subtle taste. In the Loved One's house attachment is the only earning; once caught in it, the self regards everything else as a burden. Whoever is struck by it cannot turn the heart's edge away—this ordeal cannot simply pass. Says Kripanivasa: in attachment's marketplace, what clever woman has not been sold?
