Fresh English translation

Attachment is a net in which death itself appears—tell me, who can untangle it? Alas, friends, it has made the mind a woman of separation. It turns reason, consciousness, and body mad and leaves the lover's heart distraught. Youth is cast into its fever as though a cooling breeze had been swept away. The sickness grows beyond telling; friend, the body wanders and dies in bewilderment. Thunder itself begins to sound dear, and the peacock-like mind longs for the raincloud. Attachment kicks, taunts, and strikes; only one who has suffered it knows its cruelty. Like a gambler it offers the first stake, then plunders everything and disgraces the family. It makes the sons of the rich into fakirs who beg from door to door. Says Kripanivasa: this two-natured love has fallen upon my house—terrible in pain, yet also the giver of bliss.
