लगन धुत्यारी धूती सुधि बुधि सब हरी री। सदा की अमानी कीन्हीं बिकल दिवानी मोको, हाहा प्रीत सयानी तोको कहा गुण दोष री॥ गई मेरी नींद भूख, कुल की निकाह गँवाई, लगन सुबेरानि माई हियरे सों ना टरी री। जरा तन मन प्राण सुख दुख ज सों निदान, लगन अनोखी माई तनकहूँ ना जरी री। इखदाई राम मिलाई जैसे पाई तैसे नचाई, कृपानिवास लगनबश जीव तन में मरी री॥ २ ॥ १७ ॥

This cheating attachment has duped me and stolen all awareness and reason. It has made the once self-respecting woman helpless and mad. Ah, clever Love—what praise or blame can I offer you? My sleep and hunger are gone, and the marriage-bond of family honor is lost. Mother, this dawn-bringing attachment will not leave my heart. It has consumed body, mind, life, pleasure, and pain alike; strange attachment, it has not spared even a particle of me. Giver of love, unite me with Rama! Having seized me, it makes me dance as it pleases. Says Kripanivasa: under attachment's power the soul dies while still in the body.
