Attachment will not depart even if the head is removed. Lover mad with pain and hungry for the vision, offer every breath at the Beloved’s court. Let stake, spear, thunderbolt, sword, thrust and blow come; make the wise Lord the seat of life itself and scatter every obstruction. Mount the horse of longing and shoot fearless arrows into the opposing host. Kill the great enemies of shame and convention, and sound love’s battle-standard. Burn formal observance as fuel, kindle the sacred fire of love, and smear yourself with attachment’s ash. Serve at Rama’s door, take your seat at the heart’s limit, and become the bee that gains the vision. The more gold and a lover burn, the brighter their splendour grows; as the fierce heat of the sun makes the lover’s lotus open. Tell a friend always of prosperity, never of affliction. Love the Beloved every day and inwardly digest that love. Do not trust the world; remain wholly with the One before whom you have lost. Says Kripanivasa: tie attachment’s silken knot upon knot.
