Fresh English translation

In Raga Sorath. Attachment succeeds only when one carries it through. Whoever abandons it because of good feeling, bad feeling, or a dream is a lover in name alone. Once the heart is caught and given away—sold into the Beloved’s hand—one’s own mind is no longer one’s own; being wholly subject to another, what appeal can one make? Even when the body is burned, melted, and exposed amid laughter, attachment still longs onward. Only after taking off one’s head and placing it at those feet does one rejoice in one’s fortune. Though the Beloved may appear full of faults and without a particle of virtue, the lover sings only that Beloved’s virtues; born from love, how could one stain the honour of the ever-new Dear One? If a worthless life is lost but the ruby-jewel is gained, no harm has occurred. Let family, happiness, liberation, and noble birth go: do not squander even a particle of attachment. Says Kripanivasa: one intoxicated with the Beloved fears neither people nor consequences.
