Chapter Five — The Eight Presiding Bowers
Vasanta-kusumair yuktaṃ veṣṭitaṃ paramādbhutam,
Kokilādi-gaṇair juṣṭaṃ kāma-sandīpa-kārakam. (47)
That astonishing bower was enclosed by the blossoms of spring and filled with cuckoos and other melodious birds. Everything within it kindled the tenderness of love.
Sakhībhiḥ Sītayā sārdhaṃ gato bhojana-kuñjakam,
Sadānumodinī nāma bhojais tarpita mudā. (48)
With Sita and the companions, Rama entered the Dining Bower. There the companion Sadanumodini joyfully satisfied the divine pair with delicious foods.
Śāmanīyaṃ cāru-kuñjaṃ dṛṣṭavān Bhagavān prabhuḥ,
Praharṣam atulaṃ lebhe komalāstaraṇāvṛtam. (49)
The blessed Lord then beheld the lovely Bower of Repose, spread throughout with soft bedding, and experienced incomparable delight.
Sthitvā yat sakhī sākṣāt Śrīmanmadanamañjarī,
Suṣvāpa Sītayā sārdhaṃ tataś ca premṇā prabodhitaḥ. (50)
There the companion Manmadanamanjari herself attended them. Rama slept beside Sita and, when the time came, was gently awakened through love.
