Chapter Five — The Circles of Companions
The sixteen companions of the subsidiary petals devote themselves unceasingly to varied forms of service. (33, completed)
The next ring has twelve petals, inhabited by the following companions:
Kṣīrodabhavā Bhadrarūpā Bhadradā Bhāvavarjitā,
Vidyullatā Padmanetrā Pāvanī Haṃsagāminī. (34)
Kshirodabhava, Bhadrarupa, Bhadrada, Bhavavarjita, Vidyullata, Padmanetra, Pavani, and Hamsagamini.
Ramaṇīyā Premadātrī Kuṅkumāṅgī Rasotsukā,
Etāḥ sakhyo vasanti atra daleṣu dvādaśa ca. (35)
Ramaniya, Premadatri, Kunkumangi, and Rasotsuka complete the twelve companions dwelling upon those petals.
Beyond them is another twelve-petalled circle:
Mahārhā Mādhavī Mālyā Kāmadā Kāma-mohinī,
Ratīkṣatī Nitivaktī Premadā Kuśalā Kalā. (36)
Its companions are Maharha, Madhavi, Malya, Kamada, Kamamohini, Ratikshati, Nitivakti, Premada, Kushala, and Kala.
Līlādayaś copadale sevante Raghunandanam,
Dṛśyante ca mahāprema-mattāḥ kautūhalānvitāḥ. (37)
Lila and Lilavati complete this circle. Drunk with the highest love and filled with joyous eagerness, these companions serve Raghunandana upon the surrounding petals.
Tato ’ṣṭa-dala-madhye ca nānā-saubhāgya-saṃyute,
Kuñjādhiṣṭhātrī-sakhyas tā nṛtya-sevana-tatparāḥ. (38, continues)
Before them lies an eight-petalled lotus endowed with every beauty. Its eight presiding companions govern the bowers and are wholly devoted to dance and service.
