Chapter Five — The Companions of the Lotus Pavilion
O foremost sage, I shall now name the sixteen companions who dwell upon the petals of the lotus, each radiant with the excellence of her own petal. (28, completed)
Ujjvalā Kāñcanī Citrā Citrarekhā Sudhāmukhī,
Haṃsī Prasaṃsī Kamalā Viśadākṣī Sudarśakā. (29)
They are Ujjvala, Kanchani, Chitra, Chitrarekha, Sudhamukhi, Hansi, Prasansi, Kamala, Vishadakshi, and Sudarshaka.
Candrānanā Candrakalā Mādhurya-śālinī Varā,
Karpūraṅgī Varārohā ity ādyāḥ ṣoḍaśa smṛtāḥ. (30)
The remaining six are Chandranana, Chandrakala, Madhuryashalini, Vara, Karpurangi, and Vararoha. These are remembered as the sixteen.
Tasya padmasyopadale rājante ṣoḍaśāṅganāḥ,
Śṛṇu nāmāni tāsāṃ vai mahāmunivareśvara. (31)
Sixteen more radiant women shine upon the subsidiary petals of that lotus. O lord among great sages, listen now to their names.
Śobhanā Śubhadā Śāntā Santoṣā Sukhadā Satī,
Cārusmitā Cārurūpā Cārvaṅgī Cārulocanā. (32)
They begin with Shobhana, Shubhada, Shanta, Santosha, Sukhada, Sati, Charusmita, Charurupa, Charvangi, and Charulochana.
Hemā Kṣemā Kṣemadātrī Dhānī Dhīrā Dharāsmṛtā,
Aneka-sevābhiratā sevante nirnimeṣataḥ. (33, continues)
The six who complete the group are Hema, Kshema, Kshemadatri, Dhani, Dhira, and Dharasmrita. Absorbed in many forms of loving service, they attend the divine couple without so much as blinking.
